The Best Portable Table Saw For The Money And What To Look For When Buying One

When deciding on buying a table saw you should ask yourself these questions ahead of time before going ahead and buying one:

All table saws are built differently, mainly their motors.  You want to find the table saw that has the highest amp output.  The amp number will tell you how fast the motor can turn the saw blade, the faster the saw blade can turn the better the wood will get cut.  A typical amp output is around 15 Amps.  This Amp output will allow you to cut hardwood relatively easily and also cutting soft wood too.

The rip capacity is how wide the table saw can cut wood.  Typically standard workshop table saws have a high capacity length than portable table saws.  But, just because one saw can cut wider things, doesn’t make it a better saw. 

You need to determine what you are going to use the saw for.  If you are just going to use the saw for small projects around the house then you really won’t need a table saw that has a wide rip capacity.  If you are going to go with the smaller table saw a good range of rip capacity is around 10 inches to 16 inches. 

This will give you more than enough room to cut 2x4’s, 2x6’s, and small trim.  But if you need a saw that needs to handle bigger projects go with a saw that has a 24-inch capacity.  That’s two feet of cutting ability, which is more than enough for everything you desire to cut.

The fence is the part of the saw that holds the wood you are cutting in place.  This is what makes your cut tight, which is the most important thing when it comes to cutting wood. 

So this is why you have to have the best table saw with a good fence, to ensure that every cut is where you want it.  You also want to make sure the fence is easily adjustable so you don’t have to waste time moving the fence back and forth to make different cuts.

You want to make sure that the table saw you buy has a warrantee.  This will unsure that if something goes wrong with the saw you can get it replaced.

For obvious reasons you want a table saw that will hold up over time with out breaking.  Try to find saws that are made mostly out of metal.

In my opinion using the criteria above I have found that DeWalt table saws are the best.  I have seen them used on almost every job site I’ve been on and I have found them to be reliable and durable. 

One table saw that I have found to be the best is the DeWalt 10-inch compact table saw.  You can pick it up easily and can fit in a back seat of a car.  The fence can easily be adjusted and you don’t have to worry about the fence moving while you are cutting.

It even has a dust collection bag included.  The stand for the saw is sturdy and is good to use on a driveway or grass.  This is probably the best table saw under 300 dollars.

Another great table saw that is also made by DeWalt is the DeWalt 10-Inch Job Site Table Saw With Roiling Stand.  This saw is similar to the saw mentioned above but has a rip capacity of 24 inches compared to 10 inches.  Its wheels can easily transport this saw, which is good because carrying table saws around puts a lot of strain on your back.  It’s a little more expensive than the first DeWalt saw, but if you are doing bigger projects that require bigger cuts, then this saw is well worth the price.

Some other good table saws are made by Bosch and Rockwell.  They are good, but if you truly want to get the best rated table saw I would buy a DeWalt.
