I love turkey meatloaf and I was looking for new recipes. I came across a recipe for cooking regular meatloaf in a crockpot and knew I had to try it. My ingredients are totally different than the original, I just used a few of the cooking tips.
Turkey Meatloaf Made in a Crockpot
Turkey meatloaf made in a crockpot is an easy answer to the question "what's for dinner?"
I am trying to cut down on red meat. However, I love meatloaf. Recently, I have been making turkey meatloaf. It is definitely leaner when cooking with ground turkey so you don't have too much grease in the bottom of your pan.
I was looking around online and came across lots of recipes for making turkey meatloaf in a crockpot. I am all for the convenience of a crockpot and love to find recipes for more than stew. I even make my oatmeal in the crockpot; I add oatmeal, water and then leave it overnight. I wake up to ready-made oatmeal.
Prepare the crockpot
There are a couple of things to do before you place the turkey in the crockpot. This recipe gave me the idea to place some crumpled up aluminium file in the bottom to keep the turkey out of any grease that might come out of it, then to fold a long piece of foil in half and fold it into the crockpot thus giving it "handles" to make it easier to remove the cooked meatloaf.

- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1/2 cup chopped onions
- Salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste
- 1 tablespoon of ketchup
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs
Place the ground turkey in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
Stir to break up the meat.
Add salt, pepper and garlic powder; stir until blended with the meat
Add chopped onion; stir until blended
Add the egg; still well until completely blended with the meat
Add the ketchup; stir until blended
Add breadcrumbs; add enough to ensure that the meat is not too soggy and holds together well
Form the meat into meatloaf shape
- Place the meatloaf on the foil you have already prepared in the crockpot
- Cut a potato into eighths and scatter around the meat in the crockpot
- Cover the crockpot and turn onto high
- Cook for 4-6 hours
- Remove the meatloaf from the crockpot using the "handles"
- Place on a serving plate, cut into slices and serve with the potatoes
As you will notice, turkey meatloaf is a lot lighter than regular meatloaf. But don't worry, it is cooked. This meatloaf sliced like a dream and the potatoes were perfectly cooked. Since I had so much foil in the crockpot clean up was very easy.
It goes to show you, your crockpot can be used to cook more than stews. I want to next try baking a cake in my crockpot.
