Sometimes it's nice to write a longer personal letter to a friend rather than just send a Christmas card. But with so much going on as you prepare for the holidays, finding time to sit down and write a letter can be a challenge. If your heart is in the right place but you don't know what to write about, here are some things that I am sure any dear friend of yours would like to hear:

  • Tell your friend about a moment when something made you think of your friend right out of the blue (i.e.; when you bit into a Christmas cookie, the taste brought back memories of the last time you and your friend baked together).
  • Talk about your health. Our dearest friends really do want to know that we are keeping well. Life is short and nothing can be taken for granted so your friend would be happy to hear that your health is good.
  • Write about your children and ask about hers.
  • Write about the things that are making you happy; your job, a new relationship, an upcoming trip, a sudden turn of good luck. Good news is infectious and your friend would be pleased to know that life is treating you well.
  • Give thanks for all the things that your friend has done for you this year. Be specific. Tell her how something she did or said made a difference to your life this year.
  • Write about how nice it would be to see each other again soon.
  • Share something that you learned recently; a craft, a new recipe, a decorating tip.
  • Tell your friend what you are reading or listening to these days.

If you want to send your friend a little holiday humor, here are three silly Christmas jokes that would fit inside almost any greeting card.
