Amber and silver jewelry is more than just an enchanting adornment. When worn together they create a powerful talisman.

It's hardly surprising that the Lithuanians describe amber as 'sunshine', ancient societies also reconised the beauty and warmth of this distinctive gem. In fact, the ancient Greeks coined the term elektron when describing amber, which translated means 'formed by the sun'. This exceptional crystal has had a plethora of uses and applications throughout the centuries; from folk medicine to currency; good luck charms to perfume.

When amber 'the window of the past' meets silver ' the mirror to the soul' not only is a beautiful piece of jewelry created; but a powerful talisman is born.

The power of amber.

From relieving joint pain to preserving youth; the properties of amber are many.

Amber is believed to be a natural ioniser, in other words, this gemstone is thought to transform negative energy into positive energy, which is why it is often used to help combat the effects of depression by helping the user overcome any negative emotions.

Amber has also been used for centuries to help alleviate conditions associated with the gall bladder, liver, kidneys, spleen and stomach. In addition, those who suffer with joint conditions may also find some relief from pain by wearing this gemstone.

The term 'window to the past' was coined to describe amber's ability to preserve. As a fossilised tree resin, amber is not a true stone in the strictest sense of the word.

Nevertheless during it's formation, which can be anything between ten and 40 million years, amber traps and preserves a range of insects, lizards and other species, offering some insight into the lineage of certain species and how they may have evolved. It is for this reason that this gemstone is also used to preserve youth and beauty as it is associated with the essence of life.

Not only is amber warm to the touch, but when rubbed with silk will attract lint and dust particles; it has magnetic properties, which is why it is thought to attract romantic love and general good fortune. Amber is also sometimes used by the Wiccan and Shamen traditions as a talisman for protection.

The many shades of amber.

Every piece of amber is truly unique.

Most people liken the colour of amber to that of honey, or the warm golden hues of the sun, and whilst it is true that many pieces of amber do indeed take on those characteristics, amber can also be found in a spectrum of colours.

Silver has been used for centuries to aid healing and help fight infection, in fact, prior to the wholesale use of antibiotics in the 1950's, silver foil was often used to treat external wounds. In recent times, the inclusion of silver in wound dressings has increased due to the emergence of bacteria which is resistant to antibiotics, such as MRSA.

Today, silver is used extensively by dentists in the form of implants and by manufacturers of medical applications such as breathing tubes and catheters.

Hi DerdriuMarriner!

I'm not sure about white gold but Platinum is used in medical applications and medical equipment too. I think, albeit there is no evidence, that the process of silver forming, over tens of thousands of years, is thought to charge it, and like crystals that form over millions of years is imbued with medicinal benefits.

DerdriuMarriner on 10/03/2024

All the silver benefits indicated above impress me.

Other metals such as platinum and white gold impress me.

Is it possible that their coloring indicates the same benefits or is it silver being silver, not being a white metal, that initiates all the benefits that it impels?

You're very welcome. :)

Hi katie,

I think amber's gorgeous and it's the other benefits too. Cherry amber's my absolute favourite though- I would so love the cherry amber Catherine the Great necklace. Perhaps one day your daughter could use the amber pieces and have some jewelry made from it.
