Google Indexed

My latest Wizzley article - and my first high quality one - was indexed by Google in under an hour.  Is that typical or is it because of where I promoted it?

It's typical because you're publishing on Wizzley, Kate.  Wink

More seriously...yes, we experience this a lot. Google loves us.

I do spot checks and noticed a general decrease in the time it takes for new articles to get indexed. Although it may vary from day to day, I usually see new pages indexed within 2 hours. It's especially pleasing to see new pages actually ranking in this short span of time as well.

So far, Google has been good to us. I'm a bit disappointed with Bing. They are either not at the top of their game or they have a completely different approach to indexing.

The new google is very good at indexing stuff. Gone are the days when it was a sign of quality. Though of course it does help that Wizzley not only promotes new wizzles on the front page, in each category, but also on each wizzle individually.

That last bit is, IMO, overdoing it btw. I'd rather see more focus on linking to related content on the articles themselves.

Bing is the kind of search engine to love tags - and we don't have any here. Also, I do think they're less good at indexing quickly in general. And this being a new site probably doesn't help.

Would it help to have more specific categories? We're generally quick and eager to implement wishes for new categories, which would group closely related articles together perhaps better than a tag system would. Effective tagging seems to be a hit and miss for many people.

I do think some more categories is going to help.  If I might give an example - I am writing a number of pages at the moment about Niche Marketing - however I don't want to limit myself to Internet Marketers as these develop so am shoe horning them into Business and Career - Marketing - Online Marketing

I think that was a request for a Niche Marketing category Laughing

Paul - here's what we did:

  1. Business & Career  »  Marketing  »  Niche Marketing
  2. Internet Marketing  »  Niche Marketing

Let us know if this works for you.

Is there a place to suggest categories?

Is it a problem for a major site like yours to have too many categories?

I also wondered why there aren't any tags here? I'm assuming the keywords and stuff is coming through our writing of the page with titles, subtitles and initial content in modules.

Vikk - click on "Create a new page" and check out our "Search Topics" feature at the bottom. Enter a desired topic to see its path. If we don't have your topic, you can click on "Suggest a new topic" and let us know about your suggestion.

We'll then get a support email about your wish, and, usually, your wish is our command. Smile

Ooops...forgot. We don't have tag pages like Squidoo, that's why we don't use tags. Tags are not necessary for getting found by Google. Your focussed content is.  Smile

Chefkeem, it's really interesting that you don't have tag pages. I always wondered if tags were really necessary or not.
