I'm missing the boat on halloween costumes! maybe I pick a holiday and just go all out, then another, and another (regardless of season), and get them all out there- just plain burnt out writing right now (and making tutorials sucks too lol). you should find these costumes being used by people on youtube :)

Plus it fixes the association in your mind. If that person was the only one you know who loved, say, a certain brand of whisky, then the taste, smell and sight of that whisky will always remind you of him/her.

But the thing is that the whisky is tangible. It remains, as a mnemonic. It's on this Earth long after time has eroded so much of the ordinary day to day life memories about the person who's gone.

The prompt is now there. A certain smell might bring back a story recalled at the funeral. It's a link.

That was one of the important things that struck me about the Wiccan funeral process in your article. That step into the world of the remembered person. A very powerful approach for sure. Symbolism is such a fantastic thing, especially for those times when words are difficult to express the depth of feeling felt.

The personal symbolism is by far the most important part of the funeral. It allows us all to step into the life of the deceased for a moment. It lets us remember them so much more keenly, not as an abstract, but as a real, breathing person.

Thanks Jo. It's a really helpful insight. I had heard of the Crone before but had never been able to place her into any context because my knowledge was so limited. This article also highlights all the elements that are so important in memorial services. I think the personal symbolism is wonderful. I was also greatly interested to see your words on the "darkness as the flip side of light." as this is a concept that's also a part of my own beliefs. Great article!

I notice that if someone really is kind and good inside, then his or her looks truly don't matter - not because of a principle, it just happens. Silliness, malice or overgrown ego in pretty people is just as disagreeable as in... well, the other kind. I think both 'worship me, I'm beautiful' and 'she's pretty, let's bring her down' attitudes are nauseating.

Being that I am so attractive, I find others very unfair. LOL (Seriously I don't like the way I look).

Actually, I find that it is quite the opposite. The better attractive you are, the better chance at employment and advancement. Unattractive people are looked down at. Especially women.

Although, when I was younger and better looking. Some people actually thought I was attractive. I worked in a male dominated engineering field. Being a woman, I have always been treated unfairly in this field. When I was young and thin, the wives of my co-workers treated me bad and acted like I planned on steeling their husbands.

My daughter is very attractive. She has always been treated nice by others. But she is still light on experience, but who knows.

This is only the tip of the iceberg. Working on another one as we speak. :)
