Waking and Dealing with Alzheimer a Families Real Life Accounts
@Dustytoes I do understand the importance of having professionally trained care givers when dealing with Alzheimer’s. The train trip made that point all too clear to my wife, our oldest son and me.
Before that eye opening experience, we were actually thinking of having mother come live with us for a while. As difficult as it was, we realized we simply did not have the skill set necessary to care for mother properly at home. Not a popular decision, however, mother could no longer take care of herself, or live alone, it was time we did something that would ensure mother’s safety and well-being. Moving mother to a nursing home properly equipped to care for Alzheimer’s patients like our dear mother, was the only responsible thing to do.
Intellectually I believe that was the best course to follow, however emotionally I tear up every time I recall mother telling me many years ago, she did not want to spend her dying days in one of those places. That my friend is a burden I will carry alone, with help from my friends I am sure, After all, no man is an island.
Be well and thanks for sharing your heart-felt insights. Mike
