Author Score : Relevant or Irrelevant?
Everyone these days seems to hold celebrity in high esteem. It is so obvious that they know what they are talking about. 'People often ask me.........' - end the sentence for me. '...........and I have found that.........is the best product......blah, blah'.
I am so interested in what they have to say about products that they have a vested interest in, or have put their name to, like perfume, or underwear or whatever. As if!
But there are those that hang on every word.
They are the people that we, I'm afraid, are selling to. And they take notice of such things as recommendations. Why else would Amazon make available so much page space & computer resources to obtain recommendations? We do not know the people behind each recommendation. Yet it is in our nature to take their advice.
Similarly, someone seeing that an author, and most times they will come in contact with them for the first time in a list such as 'Best Authors', has a 100 against their avatar, will assume that author to be one of the 'best'. They have no other means of identifying who is, and is not, 'the best' until after visiting some of 'the best'. It will take them a long time to find another 'best' author if they are languishing in the depths of the list.
'nuf for now. Rant over. Back to earning a living.
