New Balance Men's MR993 Running Shoe

I'm just a casual runner that does a few miles every week, but it still requires a good shoe.  Traditionally I've used Asics just because they seemed like the go-to brand for a good running shoe, but I'd heard an awful lot of good things about the New Balance 993.

New Balance 991

For one, I actually have worn the previous 991 model and thought it was great.  I really didn't have any problems with it at all, it simply wore out and I replaced it with a newer Asic's product.  I will say that I was a bit worried when it came to durability for the new 993, supposedly from reviews and comments the durability was actually reduced.  Fortunately I haven't noticed any problems at all after a few months, but part of that might be due to my infrequent training routine.

I think the two strongest attributes the New Balance 993 shoes have going for them are support and ventilation.

Support

Whether you're running or walking the shoes provide great all around stability.  The flex in the shoe is great as well, but I never felt like my footing or grip on a surface was in danger.  Again I haven't had any trouble with the tread wearing out quickly, which is nice and helps a lot in terms of the grip I can expect to get

Ventilation

The whole upper portion of the shoe is a softer type mesh that really provides the perfect amount of breathing for your foot.  Even the toughest conditions haven't been able to produce that "swamp-foot" effect that I've felt from other shoes.  

The upper mesh material isn't the strongest and can be damaged if you aren't careful with them.  I noticed a few reviews mention that they cut through it on the edge of a cabinet or something.  Generally just try to be careful and definitely don't run into the edge of any cabinets, that's bad for both you and your shoe.

Overall I'd say that the New Balance 993 is 

• Very comfortable
• Good for running or walking
• Available in lots of sizes (widths) and styles
• Lighter than previous 99x releases
• Well ventilated by mesh
• A good looking shoe!

I've been very happy with my purchase (the grey color scheme) and will definitely consider NB again next time I'm ready for a casual or running shoe purchase. 

Another big plus is that I can feel patriotic about buying shoes, since I'm supporting an American made brand.
