Product Description: Potato chips from the Utz brand that, according to the bag, are prepared in a fashion that is similar to how chips were made back when the company was started. I recently purchased a couple single-serving packages of these chips and had an opportunity to try them earlier today when I had them as an afternoon snack at work.

Review
My wife lovesUtzpotato chips but we can’t find that brand around here. So, as a “just because” surprise for her, I ordered a mixed box of chips (60 single-serve packages total) from the company’s web site a few days ago and they arrived yesterday.
As I was digging through the box and mentally recording the varieties that were shipped to us, I came across Grandma Utz’s Handcooked Potato Chips. This was something I had not heard of before and, when I read the description on the back of the bag (which was a short narrative about how their chips were originally made back in the 1920s), I became intrigued. So, when I was picking out an afternoon snack for work, I ended up taking one of the bags with me. And, overall, I have to admit I’m impressed.
To tell you the truth, while my wife loves the Utz brand, I honestly never really thought their chips were anything special. They are good. I just wouldn’t describe them as better as the brands we do have available to us at our local stores. That being said, I thought these chips were definitely worth my money.
There were a couple things I liked about these chips. The first, which was very noticeable right away, was they weren’t as greasy as many other potato chips I’ve eaten. This surprised me a bit because the bag describes them as being cooked in lard. But, at the same time, I did appreciate this because greasy chips and work don’t really mix well.
The chips were also very crispy. Again, this is something that isn’t always the case with many other brands of potato chips and I did enjoy the fact they were so crunchy.
Another thing I found I liked about these chips is they weren’t overly salty. I don’t mind salt. But, I can only stand so much and these chips had just the right amount on them. The salt gave them some flavor. But, it wasn’t the only thing I tasted when I ate them.
In fact, I think my only complaint was the fact there weren’t enough in the bag. I might have to order a larger bag of them next time as a result.

Final Opinion
This is a surprisingly good product that I’m glad I had an opportunity to try. If you’re able to buy these chips, I would recommend picking up a bag and trying them for yourself.

I am familiar with the company name, since they make excellent pretzel mix. I have not tried their potato chips, but the pretzel mix is at both Sams and Costco. I would think they might have the chips as well.
