Thank you very much. As you have partial deafness too, did all of this chime with how you hear the world?

It sounds like we have slightly difficult situations, as I'm profoundly deaf in one ear, but can hear fine with the other.

I prefer the 'different way to experience and interact' one than burden. It's a boon when we get to sleep through all of the noise!

I was planning a follow-up all about fan-fiction no-nos, including Mary-Sue. She's not alone. There's Gary-Stu too, but he's less famous due to the fact that it's mostly women who write these kind of stories!

I've certainly seen a LOT of Gary-Stus in original stories though, as opposed to fan fiction. Too many!

I am ridiculously proud that I inspired those pictures. These are just a sample. Usually, I gush my thanks all over the artist, then save a copy in a folder. It was only when I came to write this article that I opened that folder and saw them all together for the first time. I had tears in my eyes. I'm very grateful to all who took the time to draw them; and quietly thrilled that I was their muse.

You're very welcome. Formally studying can feel like such a massive undertaking. It's only when you realise that we do it all of the time anyway, that you can work out tips from your own life to make it painless. Just look how we'd approach, say, discovering everything about a favourite celebrity, then apply. <3 Good luck with it all with your child.

Great tips on getting more fruit and vegetables. I make soup at least a couple of times a week and find that not only is a great way to use vegetables, but often makes a quick meal the next day.

Thanks for writing this! I have had significant hearing loss in my left ear since I was 5 years old from a collapsed ear drum that they finally repaired when I was 16. Even after the eardrum replacement surgery my hearing has been significantly reduced in the left side. I really appreciate you writing this article and I hope that more people read it. It is important to understand that it can be a burden, or at least it is a very different way to experience and interact with the world around you. Well written.

Very good article on treks into the wilderness, Maia. As I live in a wilderness area (British Columbia), I would encourage people to do their homework just as you say, and not to do serious wilderness trekking totally alone. I have seen many instances of people ill equipped or unaware of some of the real dangers of an area. We have bears and cougars in our mountains, as well as avalanches, etc. A knowledgeable local could at least steer you away from areas where you are likely to experience serious dangers and to educate you on what to do if . . . . People have accidents, but most accidents could be prevented with a little fore knowledge. If you travel with a buddy, then at least one of you could get help if the other were to be injured.
