One of the best gifts I ever received was a wireless weather station. My sister gave it to me for Christmas several years ago, and I look at it several times a day. I do not know how I ever got by in life without a weather station!

Weather stations have come a long way over the years. They used to be a huge instruments that sat on buildings, and only those who knew anything about science could read them. Over the years, they have become more compact and easier to read, making them the perfect gift for anyone on your gift list - or even yourself!

The weather station my sister gave me was made by La Crosse Technology. Founded in 1985, they were the first company to come out with atomic time devices. Over the years, they have improved on this model, and now offer a wide range of time and weather products.

La Crosse has a partnership with The Weather Channel, and together they designed and created a wide range of weather and time stations for the home and backyard. These weather stations offer a wide variety of functions, including inside & outside temperatures; humidity; time, and weather conditions. Mine even has an icon called "Oscar" who shows me how to dress!

Features & Benefits

One of the things I like about my La Crosse Technology Weather Station is that it is small, and can be set on any hard surface. I keep it on the end table next to my couch, where I can consult it any time of the day. It also has a hole on the back, so you can mount it on the wall.

It has a number of functions, including inside and outside temperature and humidity; an atomic clock that resets every day; and an Oscar icon that shows you how to dress. Oscar wears everything from a swimsuit in the heat, to an overcoat in the snow, and an umbrella when it's raining outside.

The display is easy to read, and there are controls so you can set the display. An included manual shows how to use the 4 buttons on the front to set the clock, save the temperatures for future reference, and disable daylight savings time.

The weather station runs on battery power, and takes 4 AA batteries. These are not included, so make certain to purchase batteries at the same time as your station.

My Recommendation

There are many other brands and styles of wireless weather stations on the market. There are the large ones that hang on the wall, and others than have different functions than the La Crosse Technology station. However, if you want a wireless weather station that provides accurate readings for inside and outside temperatures, humidity index, and time, this is the one I recommend. I have had mine for 6 years, and other than replacing the batteries twice, it has served me well!

How much rain did you get?

Rain Gauge Recommendation

I gave my dad this AcuRite Rain Gauge for Christmas last year, and he absolutely loves it! Instead of going outside to see how much rainfall he has received, the gauge sits inside the house. It's very accurate, showing rain amounts in 1/100th of an inch increments. It also keeps a running total, so you'll be able to keep track over the course of a month.

I hadn't thought about using it for that purpose, but perhaps keeping one in the garden will remind you when to cover your plants.

Now that I own one, I simply cannot do without it! It is so handy - just glance at the station, and you know what the weather is like outside!

I have on of these and it's great. Maine summers end fast and I have to worry about my gardening freezing.So I am always watching the garden temperature.

This product looks so interesting. I never thought there could be one for personal use, all these days we relied on weather forecast. The weather station can be very handy while planning for an outdoor party or picnic.
