Book to Movie Adaptations 2013

by lauryallan

If you love literature and movies, then you'll love some of these book to movie adaptations 2013 coming to a cinema near you.

Some of the best movies of all time are actually adapted from books. It's easy to see why people flock to these types of movies. The book can provide a great plot for the director and the audience to follow. Many of the kinks have been ironed out and it makes it easier to plan out a project.

Popular books that are adapted to movies come with a audience waiting eagerly for their favorite book to be brought to life. To see the characters they have envisioned right in front of them. To hear the written word spoken and see if the movie is as good as they remember the book to be.

Good Book to Movie Adaptations

When I think of good book adaptations, I think of movies that have remained true to the plot provided in the book. When the film strays too far from the book, die hard fans get lost or confused. It's risky to stray too far from the themse of the book, especially when it's anticipated there will be more than one movie based on the book. Mess up the first movie in the series and kiss good bye to your core followers who didn't need multi-million dollar advertizing campaigns to get their ticket for the showing of their favorite book.

You may have notice that there are no superhero comics included in this list. Yes, there are a number of comic books that have been adapted into fims which are due to air at the cinema in 2013. However, I have included those movies in the best Superhero movies of 2013 list instead. The aim was to choose movies that were adapted from novels rather than comics.

Do You Remember Some of these Movie Adaptations?

Some of the best book to movie adaptations have done just that - stuck closely to the plot provided in the books. Recent examples of this have included Lord of the Rings, the Harry Potter series, Stardust and the Twilight Saga. There are so many more, but there are just far too many to name.

2013 has a number of movies which are adaptations of popular books. Many of these will go on to become some of the most popular movies of 2013. You can check the details below of the book to movie adaptations of 2013 below and see if there's a book you loved coming to a cinema near you in the near future.

Do you prefer the original book or the movie based on the book?
Hansel and Gretel
$6.29  $12.5

1. Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters

I love to sit down with a good book and get to know the characters and their stories. Some of the best movies in 2013 are based on books. One of these is Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters.

This movie is based on the original fairytale of hansel and Gretel which was about the fate of two children lost in the woods. When they discover a house made of candy in the forest they think they are safe. Only to be killed by the witch who lives in this confectionary hell. This story has been adapted and in the movie adaptation Hansel and Gretel managed to defeat the witch and burned her house down, to protect other children from the fate they almost suffered.

Fast forward a number of years and Hansel and Gretel are now fully grown and have their own family business - hunting and killing witches all over the world. This sibling pair are tough and witches cower in fear when they hear they have come to town. Well normally they would. Hansel and Gretel, played by Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, have come across a new evil that doesn't care who they are. The rules have changed, but these witch hunters failed to recieve it. Instead, they stumble into more danger than they've ever dealt with before.

Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters is expected in cinema's from January 11th 2013.

Carrie
$9.29  $3.75

2. Carrie

If you are a fan of horror and Stephen King, then this new adaptation of his supernatural thriller, Carrie is probably the best choice on this list for you.

If you are scared of the dark then I'd suggest you skip this movie.

Chloe Moretz leads the cast as Carrie and her mother is played by Julianne Moore. This story continues to be haunting and creepy even though this is the third time it's been made into a movie.

For those that don't know the story, it's about a little girl that gets picked on by some school class mates. Only someting happens to Carrie and those classmates quickly come to realize that maybe they shouldn't have done those things to Carrie.

3. Jack the Giant Killer

Everyone knows the fair tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. Watch this story come to life in 2013 when Jack has to rescue the Princess from the Giant, before his world is destroyed. However, this time there may be more than one giant. In fact, there is a whole world of giants.

Jack has really dont it this time. When his beans get wet, he opens a way to the Giant realm. The Princess is whisked away on the Beanstalk and Jack must race to return her safely to his world and find a way to close the gateway.

Why can't teenage boys understand the meaning of "don't get these seeds wet?"

4. The Host

Stephenie Meyer fans will be happy to know that they can see another of her works adapted from book form onto the moving screen in 2013.

The Host is due to be released in cinema's on March 29th, 2013. Fans of the book will be happy to hear that the movie plot will follow closely with the premise of the book. Of course, people who haven't read the book wil still be able to understand the story.

If you like science-fiction and the invasion of the body snatchers, then you'll probably love The Host.

Cast members you'll probably recognise include Diane Kruger and William Hurt. However, since the book is mostly a love story or romance, there are a number of younger cast members.

5. The Lone Ranger

So Johnny Depp has played a guy with scissors for hands, a singing murderer, a gypsy, a vampire and a pirate. What's left for him to play? Why of course, a Native American Indian!

No this isn't a bad punchline to a bad joke, although it does kinda sound like that. Instead, this is a movie version of the adventures of the Lone Ranger and Tonto. Johnny Depp plays Tonto and shares withthe story of  the Lone Ranger as he tries to bring peace to the wild west.

Expect to see this in cinema's from Juny 3rd, 2013.

6. The Mortal Instruments

If you've never heard of the Mortal instruments book series by Cassandra Clare, then don't worry, you're not alone. This will completely change as by this time next year this book series will have been adapted in a movie and have been viewed across the world.

The Mortal Instruments book series is most popular with teens and young adults and is probably appealing to readers of the Twilight series. I recently read the books and I have to admit to really liking them and eagerly anticipating the movie version of the book.

Mortal Instruments could become the next blockbuster and a number of movies could be made as there are least 5 books in the series.

This could be the next Twilight in the making!

7. The Hunger Games 2 - Catching Fire

The second installment of the Hunger Games will pick up where the last one ended. Katniss and Peta are in for a shock when the 75th Hunger Games are announced and they find that they have to return to the arena and fight for their lives once again.

If you haven't seen the first movie in the Hunger Games trilogy it's now available on DVD.

If you are itching to watch the next Hunger Games movie, then why not read the books in the meantime, and find out what happens to Katniss and Peta in the 75th Annual Hunger Games.

8. The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug

Although the Hobbit is a single novel, Peter Jackson has decided to make it into a trilogy. Althought the first part of this new movie series hasn't actually aired in cinemas yet, it is highly anticipated to be as good as The Lord of the Rings was, so has been added to this list of the best book to movie adaptations in 2013.

If you loves the Lord of the Rings, but were wondering how a hobbit had the one rule in the first place, then you'll want to hear the story of Bilbo Baggins.
