Amazon confusion

Over the years I have visited Amazon to try to figure out how to become an associate and link items on my websites.  I can't figure it out, so I give up.

I have a Wizzley associate ID there, and would like to know how to add other sites.  I've searched through their info, but can't find the answers.  I see how to add an ID but I don't want it to be under Wizzley, obviously.

Will I need to list each site I want to use, and does Amazon have to approve them?  I'd like to see how some of you are using Amazon on your blogs / sites.

It's been over 10 years since I became an Amazon associate, so I don't remember the details. To get a separate tracking ID for wizzley, I just looked to the left margin. It said Tracking ID and then manage. Then I go to choose a new one. I don't think you need a separate account, just tracking IDs.

You wouldn't want separate accounts, so you can get higher in the tier structure. I don't know if it matters if you got your account through Wizzley or not. Perhaps NightOwl or chefkeem can help with that.

Thanks Digby, but I don't want a separate one for Wizzley.  I want one of my own for my sites.

I think you just make a tracking id for your site. I have one for each site.

I give it a name that resembles the site so I don't get confused.

When you create the ID do you add your site URL?  Is that what they are looking for?

You can create as many tracking IDs as you like. You don't really have to link it up with either website or Wizzley. You might want to track sales and that's why you perhaps want to use a different tracking ID.

So when I am at the line to "add a tracking ID", what do I put in there?  And then, can I use that on any site I want?

You can all the tracking id anything that hasn't been taken by anyone else. Then when you make a link for a new site, just make sure that the right tracking id is showing at the top of the left column. The link that Amazon generates for you will have that ID. Then you put that HTML on your site.

Thank you all so much for the info.  I don't know why, but this stuff has a hard time sinking into my thick head. Cry

I will give it a try, now that I have collected your helpful replies.  I knew I'd get good answers from my fellow Wizzleyians!

Keep coming back and asking more questions, if it doesn't work for you. It's hard for me to explain this stuff, but I'll keep trying.

You have the spot to list 5 websites.  Simply put site url there.  All you need to be is an associate, Amazon does not need to approve each site.

You can use your ID for all of your links in your sites, or you can create tracker ID for each one.

If  you have more than 5 sites, just list the ones that get the most traffic.  Create tracker ID's for the extra sites too and you will be fine.

One of the good points of Amazon is that it does not require a website, ShareaSale asks for a website before approving and signing you as an affiliate.

Tracking ID is just for your reference, it does not really need to get associate with your website. But of helps if you arrange it that way.
