Amazon Terminating California Associates

Unfortunately, Kathy, your Amazon account has been dropped by Amazon. If you now sell an artichoke from your page, Amazon will keep your share.

I recommend you check into other affiliate companies, such as Shareasale, CJ, and PepperJam.

Kathy,
Amazon DID drop us Californians last night. They will pay up anything that's owed to us up until yesterday. Any referrals you generate after that will not be paid by Amazon.

Wizzley has nothing to do with your affiliate relationship to Amazon. If you continue to use Amazon modules, and someone clicks and buys a product from them, then in 50% of the time there is a chance that Wizzley earns the revenue. The other 50% of the time, Amazon will be happy because they don't have to pay a commission anymore.

Our business model is based on impression share, not commission share like Squidoo.

OK...so if I am to understand this right...my Amazon modules here are now a maybe Wizzley would get something, and maybe they won't .  But for sure "I" won't.

As for the other places like CJ and stuff....others have said that many merchants dropped them in the other states that this happened to before.  So, any other suggestions?

Merchants that have a physical presence in California, already collect sales tax, or plan to do so anyway, are still a viable option. The problem is only with merchants that refuse to collect sales tax.

For the time being, Adsense is not affected. You might also want to explore your own product creation options. We've put our thinking caps on and will try to come up with new or additional ways to help you earn more, but it can't hurt to be pro-active.

BTW I did not get a new letter from wizzley.... if it wasn't for this forum thread, I wouldn't know....

Is there a way to find out which merchants are dropping Californians?

Amazon, not Wizzley, emailed their affiliates directly about the contract termination. You would have to ask your affiliate networks to find out which merchants are dropping Californians.

Wizzley is not the architect of this disaster.  It is between Amazon and the state governments.  Really didn't think CA would bow to this, though.

I'm a little confused as I didn't see the newsletter, either. I just read it. I've been using a combination of Amazon on my sites with some for me and some for us. :) I think I just published one today. Do I need to redo that page?

Also, does this mean we have to use the Amazon module and not the text box? I don't want to do anymore work until I know what I'm doing.

It's really quite simple, if you look at it this way:

Every time you want to market something from Amazon, Zazzle, or AllPosters - please use our modules. Please don't use image and/or text links for these 3 companies in any other module.

Anything else, i.e. Shareasale, CJ, Linkshare, PepperJam, Etsy, your own or someone else's e-books...you may advertise through image and/or text links in text modules.

Sorry, Vikk, we have to be fair so please change it.  Smile

You can always use the current text/description content and copy it in a half-width text module next to your Amazon module.

Thanks for your cooperation. You're a good sport.

No problem. I'll get it down later today. I have to take care of some things the earlier part of today but will change the modules over by the end of the day.
