Hey everyone!
I was just wondering how many here at Wizzley have their own blogs. And if you do, do you find it does better than your pages here?
Do you find you develop more of a following if your articles are on your own blog? What about earnings?
I have a blog I just started this year on stenography, but I was curious as to what everyone's experiences were.

Hi Abby,
I'm trying to split my time between both. Earnings are also slow on blogs as well, but once you get readership that changes. Ultimately, a blog or your own site is probably better, but the trick is getting traffic. However, even if I were to earn a living from one of my blogs, I'd probably still miss writing for the revenue-share sites.

yeah bloggings pretty lonely when you don't have any readers lol
my problem is I have so many interests, and I couldn't put them all one blog

I think blogs work better when they're very narrowly focused, because there is so much competition right now. Even though you don't have to share impressions when you have a blog, we probably get more impressions on a revenue-share platform, especially in the beginning.

I split my time between both. I find that revenue share sites do better at the moment, but some of my blogs are catching up. It is much harder to get the readership on the blogs, I think mainly because the revenue share sites usually already have readers coming along and will come across your articles. You need to market more to get the first reader to your blog and then keep them there afterwards.
There is more chance of earning more on a blog, since you keep the full revenue, though. But they need to be tightly focused. People won't continue reading if you jump from one topic to the next. I have five blogs set up for my different interests.

That's nice to know. I just wanted to see what was working best for everyone. I don't want to waste my time in either spot LOL

I have a couple blogs, one gets fairly decent traffic but I haven't made much money on it. I do better on a rev-share site where I've been writing for about 21 months now; so my content there has had time to age and get some authority. The thing about rev-share sites, is that some of them have good authority in the Google search engine, so that gives you a jump on it. My blog is only about a year old and is doing okay, but I think it needs more time and content to start earning significantly.. Others are correct too, the blog needs to be narrowed down to a specific subject. Google looks for authority sites.

Thanks for your input Nate! It doesn't look like there's a hard and fast answer to this question

From the point of view having an authority or rather command over your articles, blog is better but unfortunately even after one year of having my skincare blog i have never been able to earn much ...this is so disheartening that i have almost stopped writing there. However, revenue sharing sites are better because you have more chances of getting your articles come in search engines and earn money too. I prefer revenue sharing sites but i want my blogs to work too

The combination of both is probably best for start. When you see what works for you, you focus on content there and have other pages mainly for support (don't neglect them). If situation for whatever reason changes, you adapt.
If you want to earn serious money on web or anywhere else, you should (my opinion):
- offer your own product/service,
- build your own followers/customers;
Same concept works in every business area. Always was. And it (almost always) takes time (years) to succeed.

Speaking ot promoting your own product, I'll tout Zazzle again. It really is a winner for many people. You don't have to know much about design to make it there. I think I lost precious time by not focusing on Zazzle enough last year. I barely created a few designs.

I think that's true, Abby. People have taken different angles at this earning online thing, and people have different experiences on what works.
I like to do both the blog and the rev-share sites. It took me more than a year and a half to start really making any kind of money on the rev-share site where I've done most of my writing; so, I figure on the blog it will take even longer because I'm working from the ground up. I'm willing to wait and work, because I think it will eventually pay off.

I'd like to try the blog thing, so that's why I started a small one this year. My ultimate goal would be to try out some small ebook, then maybe one day a book.

Self-publishing a book is a good idea, I think. I've done that; a print book and an ebook. I haven't made much money on it yet, but I just did it a few months ago. But it's really easy to do these days, so I kind of experimented with it. Some people are very successful with self-publishing, I've heard. I want to do some more self-publishing. Mostly, lately, I've been focusing on web articles and online writing generally.

I don't deal with Adsense on my blogs, or web sites. My earnings are strictly from sales.
I started with blogs. My blogs and web sites are based on Niches.
I have 2 websites, one that is brand new and both are doing better than any place I write.
I tried 2 niches which I have paid domains for. Those are doing the best.

That's good to know Linda. I'm happy to hear your domains are doing well.

I think having a .com may make a difference. I am not using adsense, etc, just products. Traffic is good and getting hits as well as sales on my .com sites. I had some of the articles elsewhere and they did nothing as far as sales went, but they were on HP and that subdomain. I moved em to a blogspot blog, not a paid domain and nothing. When I put them on my dot.com sites, they took off.

You are welcome. I did it with one to see what might happen. Then I started a second on, less than a month ago, and it has caught up with traffic numbers at HP before I deleted almost every hub.
