Cautionary tale - security measures online

I signed up with Viglink yesterday, adding the email address for my PayPal account, and because I was lazy, I used the same password as my PayPal account (a big no-no!).

Maybe it's just "coincidence" but I just had an unauthorized purchase through that PayPal account...but luckily PayPal thought it was fishy and reversed the payment before I even knew what had happened.

But I needed to go through a few steps with PayPal, including changing my password and updating other security measures before I could access the money in that account.

I don't know if there's a security issue with Viglink, but that's the only new change I've made that includes PayPal information.  I've changed my pw for Viglink too.

I highly recommend that you use a different password etc, for any high security account like a bank account and/or Paypal as a matter of course.

Yes indeed!   I had become complacent since I've never had a problem before.

Are you using the same password also on other sites or any chance that a key logger got installed on your computer without you knowing it? I am on Viglinks since 1+year plus, but never had any problems of that kind ...

I don't know about a key logger installed on my computer.   I have a Mac, which I know has less problems than PCs in general.   I'm reading up on key loggers now to see how I can determine if one has been installed.  (do you have any recommendations?)

As for passwords, yes (embarrassed blush) there are a couple more sites that I used  the same password (notice the past tense) .  No more though. Laughing

edit -- I do use MacKeeper, and am scanning now for malware, etc.

P.S.   And Sam, you probably weren't as silly as to use the same password for your Viglink and PayPal!!   (So I learn the hard way, which luckily didn't cause any damage...)
