Though I'm all for ungluing myself from the computer and getting outdoors when writer's block hits...when I just feel the need to write, no matter what, I take time to learn about something completely random and outside of my niche.
If I've always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon, I'll dump the "rv niche" for a day and just read and have fun studying about the canyon, then write about it from my own angle, or be inspired to do "5 places I want to visit in Arizona" etc. Of course, this can be ANYTHING you've ever wanted to learn about.
So the pressure is off, because it becomes "free time" to surf and explore a bit, completely indulging in your own interests. If you always wanted to know how to redo bathroom shower tile, today's your day! Then write about your creative ideas on how you want to go about doing your own bathroom...snap some photos...have some fun. If you've been trying to find time to comparison shop for new air purifiers, research them all and then share your findings via an article. It's a win-win...productive writing day yet learning about something you never seem to have the time to explore.
