You know AJ I've thought of you as AJ for a few years now, if you 'came out of the internet closet' I'd be terrible at remembering your 'real life' name - AJ suits you Laughing

It was a great choice for a username and I could so relate to it as, let's face it, moms especially are always juggling a thousand things at once.

Lou, even my online friends who know my real name, still call me AJ!

The name came about because I was going to actually make my Username "Always Juggling" but eventhough I did not know anything about social networking online when I joined Squidoo I just had a feeling that "Always Juggling" would be a bit of a mouthful when it came to communicating with people. So I shortened it to AJ.

And I have to admit I am "dead chuffed" (Brit slang for "very, very pleased") about how well it has worked for me - starting your name with an "A" has its advantages too.

it just goes to show that the choice of your username is just soooo important so that people can think of you as a real person, even if you are not using your real name.

For nearly a decade in Runescape, no-one could change their sign up name. Seeing as it's a game that you can (and do) play for years, this meant grown adults stuck with whatever their 12 year old self thought was cool at the time.

Then Jagex started to allow names to be changed once a month.  At first, the majority of people embraced it.  All of the Disneyfan33444 people got to be something slightly more grown up.

But as time went on, it became apparent that this wasn't cool.  When an on-line name is all your have to go on, you imbibe it with personality, memories, the history of your friendship.  When the names kept changing, we kind of lost the people behind them too.

So yes, you are right.  People do think of you as a real person, however bizarre your avatar name.

As in a great movie "You can call me Susan, if it makes you feel good!"

Although my real name is 'Huma'! Kidding!

Gaia is my mum, who called me Charles.

My friends call me Chaz, although I was once known as Charlie.

Whichever is your pleasure is OK with me - but outside these walls please refer to me as HumaGaia Cool - it's a branding thing.

Hi all, my name is Cheryl and I don't mind at all being referred to by my real name.  I do wonder how I will remember everyone's name though.  Hmmmm, may be I should begin memorization practices.......Wink  I will try my best to remember and refer to you by your real name.

That's why we should choose carefully. Wink I had Andro [something] when I first started RS (female character). As soon as it was possible to change names I changed that last bit to Noir because I had created a different character (Cassis) with that last name. And then we have their brother Wournos who also got the last name Noir.

I've been using Wournos (mispelled version of Alieen Wuornos last name) since 2008 and I'm pondering making it a permanent name just for kicks.

You can call me either Wournos or Jay here on Wizzley. I'm not too picky.
