What type of ceiling fan is best?
I used to have fans in just about every room of my home in Florida and I can't remember which one is best for no noise / wobble.
I'm thinking it was either Hunter or Hampton Bay.

I have hunter in my room. They will have low noise or wobble on the box. I had to get that because I can't stand the noise when I'm sleeping |

Thanks Abby! I plan to order online so I can't read a box. |

I wind up with random brands. Right now I think most of ours are Hampton Bay but that's mostly because the price and style was right at the time I was looking for them.
We go through them far more often than most since I'm in central Alabama - between heat and humidity we wind up running the fans nearly 24/7 |

get a 5 blade or higher model, you get more wind current meaning even at lower speeds (where it's quieter) you get the same wind without the wobble noise. I had one like this in my room in California and at high speed it wobbled so intensely I thought I'd wake up with a fan in my face (if I woke up at all!)... Research told me that more blades is better and it helps to stabilize the fan base as well. When they try to stop fans from wobbling the issue is 9 times out of 10 in the blades themselves, they use counter weights to fix this so if you have a fan with a wobble, just purchase those cheap weights to counter balance it (they clip right on securely even at high speeds. That actually took 90% of the wobble hence the noise out. Some fans come with these weights and normal wear and tear on the blades or often it's a build up of dust that dis-balances it causes the problem. You would just clean the blades off and possibly re-position the weights to fix it. I learned that from the guy who installed the other fans in the garage... always tap the knowledge of repair men! |

Thanks for the input everyone. Liz - I know what you are saying I used my day and night in Florida also and I know that some are made better than others because of that. Jerrico - are you telling me I will have to start dusting??? I will definitely look at that Hunter Silent Breeze Abby. Living in New England I will only need to use it about 3 days a year - but still - without AC it would be nice to have. |

I actually like the sound of a fan. It's white noise to me. Of course I don't mean the wobble sound or the sound of the chain clanging agaist metal or glass. I need one in my kitchen. Brenda Reeves

I just bought my first one before this thread went up - I want one so I will use the a/c less. Luckily it is 5 blades and says on the box: very quiet. So I hope I lucked out. It's a Hemilton. Don't know if they sell where you guys are. Hopefully next week my contractor will be here to put it up along with all the rest of the final touches that are needed on my renovations. Glad to read the recommendations here - I'll ask about adding weights. |

@Sheri, it's funny you mentioned renovations, last night we started ripping our house apart to redesign the look/feel, clean things up, and especially purge things- we've been watching Hoarders and got scared HAHA, we got about 2 hours in and the house looks like one of those places on hoarders now... and got tired... me thinks drinking and cleaning not such a good idea... I mean that green tea is powerful no? My office is the only clean room in the house now but ahhh it's so clean! I only wish I could install a ceiling fan. Oregon doesn't much believe in central heat and air either, it rarely gets hot here it's gotten to 100 but usually summertime 70-80 is the max, winter 30 below is rare but -10 to -20 isn't. BUT NO RAIN, just beautiful snow... |

I hope someone is putting together a wizzle on selling ceiling fans, blades, replacement parts, fan lighting, fans of many types including non ceiling varieties, etc... seems like a great opportunity there, lots of fans are purchased on Amazon! |
