Twitter traffic

I have a confession to make. I've been really bad at generating traffic for my articles. I don't know -- maybe you're that way, too.

Lately I've been tweeting articles regularly, and there's something I've noticed that puzzles me. Whenever I tweet a wizzle, I check first how many visits it's had in the last week. As soon as I tweet it, I check again. There are immediately 10 or so additional visits. That's before people who follow me could have possibly clicked on my wizzle, isn't it? Is something automatic going on? Does anyone understand what's happening better than I do?

Whatever it is, I've been tweeting frantically since I've discovered this. I don't even have that large of a follower's base.

As we're on the topic, if anyone wants to follow me on twitter, I'll follow you back.

@harrington_jo  <---- mine.

It won't necessarily be the people who follow you.  It'll be people seeing the hashtags or keywords. <3

I noticed that too when I was working on articles. Now that I've slacked off, my stats are back down to where I started.

Thanks, Jo. I've followed you.

I guess I forgot to put my name on @MurrayNellis

It's NOT people, initially that is.

Many search databases build those databases from links submitted through Twitter tweets. Some of those databases are specific to hashtags used in the tweets, such as Twikle.com.

My twittering is done for 6 reasons:

1) to get a few views from interested people

2) to get indexed by more sites, especially social media watching sites

3) to increase my social kudos

4) to get retweeted so that my Twitter accounts are followed by more Twits

5) to get seen by more Twits that follow hashtags

6) to get seen by more Twits that follow lists

No: 2 is the most important, and is the effect you are seeing.

My suggestion to you, to save some time and effort, is to create an (or 5) RSS feed(s), that you promote regularly, of all of your articles.

My articles get tweeted once or twice per day, at different times of day for each article, so that the widest audience/SE's sees each of them.

Thanks, Chaz. I didn't think it could be people -- it happens automatically. I've been aware of RSS for years, but I don't really know how to create one. Would you write a wizzle about it some day? It may seem so basic to you, but I'm sure there are other less than stellar computer whizzes who would benefit.
