So what's inside it?  Some kind of cardboard frame?

Actually, this was a show cake for a sugar art competition. 

Base and cake layers are styrofoam covered with royal icing (tower) and fondant (base); image was painted with food colors on rice paper; crown, pillow, flowers, and flower pot made from sugar paste.

 

Jo I love your enthusiasm and zest for life- just wanted to say thanks for bringing the ley to wizzley :) (did I say that right based on another conversation/thread?) LoL
