I'm not having a good week. Mostly because I'm not very well, which is why you haven't seen much of me. But I had some news today which has me happy dancing! (In a lethargic, full of flu and pausing to die way, but it's still a happy dance.)
Back in the ancient mists of time, I wrote a dissertation on Wiccan history for my Masters. As I was writing it, word got out, as I was interviewing half of the Wiccan world. I was approached by a publisher, who wanted to read it as soon as it was completed.
I sent it. They read it. Next thing you know, I'm signing a contract and the book's in print. Happy days!
Fast forward a couple or three years. A couple I know, who run a witchy shop in Glastonbury, told me that they'd run out of stock for my book, but couldn't raise the publisher to order more. This went on for years. None of us could raise them. The phone number was dead. The website was gone. The e-mails bounced.
Fast forward again to joining Wizzley and Sam discovering this story. I'd just about given up on it all, as I had a contract telling me that I couldn't budge on it. Sam took the contract and read every inch of that small print. Then she gave me a To Do list based on it.
Then Sam being Sam, she checked back every week to see how far I'd got.
This morning, after following Sam's guidance, I received a letter through the post. It's from the CEO of the now defunct publishing house; and it returns all of my book's rights back to me. I can now self-publish it, or get another publisher, if I so wish.
So happy days and thank you very much, Sam, for having more faith in my life than I have; and for being so wise and tenacious.
yours
Jo
