What are Bots?

Hey all!

I was just wondering what are bots? I've noticed that I've got a few articles that are getting views everyday, but my traffic sources numbers are staying the same. There's no search terms either.

I was just wondering because I actually had over 200 views yesterday and I want to know if it's legitimate traffic, or it's junk traffic. I don't want to get excited for no reason.

Thanks!

Not sure if it's bots or not.

But to answer the question about search keywords not showing, in case you don't already know, Google has stopped showing keywords that people use. Before they used to show you all keywords from people not signed in, but now that has stopped as well.

You can still use Webmaster Tools to get a list of search terms etc, or go to your Analytics account>Acquisition>Search Engine Optimisation> Queries to get search terms and terms that got you clicks for a specific date. But information here is only available two days later.

I  wondered why when I saw people online there was no keywords. But what about my views? On my Wizzley statistics page for certain articles, I might have 10 or 15 views a day, but all the stat numbers from wizzley viewers, google, yahoo, etc. are staying the same.

Hi again Brandon, I'm in Analytics right now. I went to Search Engine Optimization -> Queries and it tells me I need to set up Webmaster Tools if I want to see keywords. Only this doesn't work unless I own the site, and I don't own Wizzley. And I can't use http://wizzley.com/authors/Mira/ -- or can I? I'm thinking they want a some kind of root address.

Oh yeah! that's a problem. Yup, wizzley you won't be able to do it. I was talking about sites of your own. You can do it for all sites that you can set webmaster tools on.

Well, I put in http://wizzley.com/authors/Mira/

That should be fine with Wizzley. Might not work, but I'll try this for 1-2 days, see if I get any feedback as far as keywords.

P.S. Hopefully Simon will see this. He could give us some suggestions!

No chance it's going to work because your pages are under wizzley.com/article.

I know. That's what I thought. So are we stuck with no keywords then? I still see keywords from Yahoo, but not many people use Yahoo these days.

Abby, When you see real time analytics and you see no keywords, check source you're probably going to see that it's from google.com or another google source. The view count is going to remain the same, everything is the same just that you don't get to see the keywords directly anymore.

Yahoo and Bing keywords still show. Nope no chance to see them anymore and that's bad. I hadn't realized that because I don't use Wizzley much atm.

Maybe there's a way to setup webmaster tools for wizzley? The code could go into the head section of each of our published pages or something? Maybe Simon can look into it.

Because it is a necessity I guess

Well, I did it for my other site, and it said "Success" but when I click on Queries I get the same page with Set up Webmaster Tools. What's going on?

P.S. Yes, I think we definitely need some help here.:)

P.P.S. For my other site the keywords might show up elsewhere, under Channels (which is new). You get Organic Search there, and if you click on it you should see keywords. At least it would make sense for them to integrate whatever tool this Webmaster Tool is so that keywords show here as well.

I don't know about Wizzley though. I'd really like to continue to be able to see what people search for.

Here's what you need  to do exactly:

First Set up Webmaster Tools for the site you're interested in. If you already have it then cool you'd get data immediately. If not, set it up.

Then go to Analytics> Acquisition > Search Engine Optimisation > Queries

Then you see something like this: http://i.imgur.com/pUrqwzd.png Click Setup Webmaster Tools sharing.

Once you do that, you're taken to webmaster tools there you pick the site you wish to link and hit save.

That's what I did. But then I went to Queries again and got the same page about setting up that W Tool.

Anyway, I have to go now. Thanks, Brandon!

I do not quite understand the Statistics showed on Wizzley. I do see the Keywords here. Can anyone throw light on how to make good use of it.

Unfortunately, you can't use Webmaster Tools with Wizzley. For that, you would at least need an own sub-domain for your articles.
