In my stats I see visitors from bit.ly. Does anyone know what this is, or if it is a search engine?

Hi ologsinquito! Bit.ly is a program used to provide short links to other web pages, if I recall. Popular with the Twitterati and similar to tinyurl which was (I think) the original shortening service for links. It makes www.xyxyxyxyyxyxyyxxxxxxx.com into a short code of mixed letters and numbers of around 8 characters, making it better for social media and also hiding links from spammers. You can see the wiki page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitly for further details.
Described by one of my clients as 'a literary grammarian', writing, researching and reading are requirements for sanity, at least this side of the keyboard.

Hi Ologsinquito, i have been using bit.ly for long time now, mainly for promoting my twitter tweets because it helps to shorten a web url. Apart from this, i also use it on my facebook page, google plus etc to drive traffic. The good aspect of having an account at bit.ly is it tells me from where i am getting the clicks on my posts, the number of clicks as well as the countries being targeted. |
