Steve Rogerson has a set of brief reviews of UK television drama series'. I am on the last episode of one of his recommended programmes and I am enjoying it thoroughly. This particular series reminds me of "The Hustler". I don't have cable and only hand-pick the shows I watch, relying on recommendations I find online.
