Disenchanted but getting back on the horse :)

Hello everyone!

My name is Mike and I've been writing online for a couple of years. I have a few blogging websites, about 50 hubs and a dozen or so lenses.

I love writing, even though what I like writing about doesn't translate well into traffic or revenue. However, a massive hit from the penguin/panda updates and a laughable decrease in traffic from hubpages (150 hits a day at the start of the year to less that 10 a day now) has left me totally disenchanted.

Anyway, I think I'm about ready to get back on the horse. I like the idea that wizzley is setting itself higher standards than other user generated sites. Hopefully in the future search engines will recognize it for having quality content written by quality writers. I might even be able to convince my wife to submit a few articles :)

At the very least I hope it will be a good place to accumulate a writing portfolio for work out in the real world.

I hope to be a worthwhile community member of value as well as a worthy content contributor.

Looking forward to seeing you all around.

Mike

PS. Comments and constructive criticism always welcome! I'm really keen to improve and figure out where I've been going wrong.

Welcome to Wizzley, Mike.  Smile

It's hard to give you any feedback on only 2 articles. One of our most successful members, JoHarrington, suggests: 'Wrote well, write often." That's good advice, as volume plays a big role in writing online.

Learn about keyword research, and check out our top authors' pages. Read all our tutorial pages under the "Wizzley" category, and follow all forum posts.

It's a lot of work. But the more you do it, the easier it gets. And it may pay off nicely in the future.

Good luck with all your online endeavors!  Smile

One other thing to note - there are many others options for generating income here, over those that HP offers. There is not an in-house ads program, but then you are unlikely to earn anything on HP ads as your traffic has been decimated.

Try out Viglink, Allposters, Zazzle etc. I'm sure your wife would like to create Zazzle products and for you to earn referrals by writing about those products.

Hi humagaia. Thanks for the extensive reply on your Things I Love About Wizzley article. No, I'm certainly not expecting miracles from this site, but I'm hoping it to be worth  the investment of time in the long run. I'll be sure to look at some of your articles regarding other traffic sources.

I appreciate all the advice, thanks again!

Hi Mike welcome on board.

One aspect you will love as you venture through the forums here is the vast and detailed knowledge of the authors that use this site.

There is writing, there is ways to make an income, but whatever your endeavors are if you expand beyond writing here on Squidoo, HubPages, Infobarrel, etc is good to find out about here.

The little nuggets and gems I myself have found out from these esteems authors never ceases to amaze me. They are an extremely helpful bunch too, Something thats been amiss on other sites for quite some time.

There is writing here as an author and there is so much more too!

It's always great to see a new face. Others already said about persistence and non-stop learning, my advice would be: set goals and check them with stats. Improve what works for you and disregard what doesn't.

Welcome:)

Welcome Mike!

I don't make my money online from writing as much as I do from selling products at Zazzle, and I've found that Wizzley has driven traffic to my Zazzle stores nicely.  As humagaia has said, it's one of the many ways to earn here.

There are so many writers here who are very knowledgeable and are happy to share their knowledge.  I've learned a lot.

Best of luck to you.  I think you will like writing here.
