Hi! I am new here. Any tips for starters?

Hello everyone. I am Lyra Kua. I've been writing online for three years but it is only recently that I decided to join Wizzley.

I am a Squidoo writer and since it is about to close down, I will be moving part of my content here.

I haven't published anything yet because I am afraid I might violate some of the rules here (one of my article has already been blocked by Wizzley).

I am wondering how do you attribute photos here? I noticed most of the photos in the articles do not have photo credits. Is that because most of the photos are owned by the writers?

I hope that I will enjoy my experience here in Wizzley. Do you have any tips for a newbie like me?

Hi Lyra, welcome and good luck. I mostly use the built-in Flickr module for photos, and they are automatically attributed. For the thumbnail, I put the attribution at the end of the introductory paragraph.

Hello ologsinquito! Thanks for your advice. I love the Flickr modules. The automatic attribution makes things a lot faster.

I also use Pixabay images, they are attribute free. Pixabay is run by Simon one of the guys here at Squidoo HQ itself. But I do attribute pixabay at times too. A link will help them out

I hope you like it here at Wizzley. I use a combination of my own photos, pixabay, and Flikr. It's so nice not to have to do attribution. Just one of the perks of writing for Wizzley.

Don't be afraid to sign up for and use Viglink. You can add unique products to your Wizzle. There are thousands of merchants and you don't have to belong to their affiliate program. You don't even have to worry about creating affiliate links. Just link to the product normally and Viglink does the rest. 

That way it doesn't matter if one merchant runs their program through Linkshare and the other Shareasale. You don't have to worry about making $50 on each platform to get paid. 

I love the versatlity.

What happened in Squidoo still makes me sad. But I need to move on. I still can't publish my content yet because it still appears on duplichecker even after removing it via Google removal tool.

Photos wise, I either make my own using GIMP, plunder Pixabay or else look for other free to use pics on the internet. 

On the whole though, I try to find ways to have products doubling as pictures to break up great walls of text.  Take this as a random example, notice how the pictures are mostly Amazon book covers or artwork from there, Zazzle or AllPosters.  The latter is particularly good for that, as they ARE images, but also for sale.

Ticks two boxes - pretty pages and potential commission.

Also, if you go onto an Amazon product page, sometimes people have uploaded extra pictures.  I believe - and ChefKeem please do correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm forever telling people to do this... - that you can use those images too, as thumbnails and what not, as long as you're actually selling the product somewhere in your article. It's useful, as those pics are often much more colorful and eye-catching than the Product On A White Background standard template of the main image.

Tips for Noobs - You sound like you're already an experienced writer, so I don't know if the Wizzley 50 Article Challenge would be of interest to you. It was designed with absolute beginners in online writing in mind. Though, to be fair, everyone currently doing it is a veteran Wizzley writer. Including me, who started doing it at 600 articles... -.- 

But it's open to all, if you fancied it, and each category already has, or soon will have, articles that have been written for Wizzley and approved by the admin team. They might serve as examples of what Wizzley admin finds acceptable.

Please don't be afraid to write here. WriterArtist has already pointed you towards the rules. It's a really friendly, laid-back place, once you find your groove. <3 And as you can see, there's always plenty of people to help you with that.

I have noticed that a lot of writers are using Allposters. They do look nice. I don't have an account though. And featuring photos of Amazon products is a great idea to give the article a great look. The pictures do look great on your article!

I will go check out the Challenge you wrote about. It sounds like a great way to get more exposure.

Jo, from what I read on the Amazon Affiliate Discussion Forums, you're free to use Amazon pics as long as you promote the product somewhere on the page. However, customer images are not owned by Amazon and therefore, you don't have a license to post such images. Usually the customer isn't going to bother suing you or anything. But that's what the rules state. Just thought I'd point it out.

I agree with Brandon - let's keep it simple and use only the proper product images on Amazon.com.

In addition to what already has been said: Wikipedia / Wikimedia is also sometimes a good source for pictures which can be used. They are under Creative Common licences. Normally, you must stipulate the name of the author who has taken the picture and link it with the credit of the picture.

Concerning photos from Flickr: I only would use the photos which have a creative common licence. In the advanced search there, you can search for photos according to this criterion.

I do the same.  I have had problems with the image module accepting source URL so I simply put it at the end of first paragraph as a hyperlink.
