Re-homing Legendary Pets

It clearly got out of hand: "How to Potty-Train Your Vampire"???

Our "Legendary Creatures" category was somewhat misaligned in the Pets & Animals section so we decided to find a new home for these critters.

Please transplant your pet zombies, unicorns, werewolves and other legendary creatures to

Culture & Society > Legends & Folklore > ...

Comfortable accommodation has been provided. Any stray "legend" found haunting our real pets and animals after curfew will be apprehended and forcibly moved.

In other words, we would appreciate your help if you would please re-categorize your articles. Otherwise, we will do it for you.

Thank you!

:)

Woot!  Mine have been re-homed like a shot!  Which should solve 98% of the problem. >.>

Now I can stop cringing whenever I see the front page of pets and animals!  Look at it!  Geckos! Dogs! Sheep! Vampire... ok, Wisefool isn't up yet... birds! Cats!  Hopefully the good folk writing over there can now stop secretly wishing something undead would come and eat me.  :D

Thank you for doing this.  It really does make much more sense.  I'm full of happy this morning. :D

I've re-homed mine too -- which should take care of most (not all?) of the other 2% that Jo doesn't haveTongue Out

Thanks for your cooperation. The last few fairies and unicorns have been rounded up as well.

Lastly, not to be nit-picky, but there may be other categories more appropriate than Legends & Folklore for certain topics, such as Entertainment & Media for movie reviews or Beauty & Fashion for jewelry. Just sayin'. ;)

But I was advised elsewhere that I'm not going to ever make any money writing about vampires, unless I add some 'sales' articles in there.  If people are in that category, then they're interested in vampires, so give them something to catch their eye, which they might buy.  All of those items are vampire related.

In truth, every article in there could be disaggregated - the historical vampires could go into history, the literary ones could go into literature etc.

How do you decide what's the most appropriate category?  I'm not saying that I'm right, wrong or indifferent on this one. I'm saying I don't know.

One of the reasons that there are so many vampire articles recently is that I was following advice regularly repeated, which is that Thou Shalt Not Write Without Choosing a Niche.  I've been made to feel in the past like I was absolutely shooting myself in the foot, if I used the scatter-gun approach to subjects. So I was exploring if you really do get more traffic/sales by concentrating on one subject. That's why they're all shoved together. Voila! A niche topic.

I can't really argue with that, Jo. When I said there may be more appropriate categories I didn't mean to imply your choice was inappropriate. You do have valid points there; it's all good.

But I'm with you too!  Like I said, I really don't know on this one.

What's everyone else think?   Or is it one of those cases of try all the things to see what brings the best results?

I doubt it it really matters that much. Generally, your buying customers will come from a Ggl search, in which case the category is not crucial.

Personally, I think someone in the market for, let's say, jewelry, might be more inclined to check out vampire earrings than someone who is interested in 18th century vampire literature. But who knows?

I've separated them all out.  They're scattered across horror movies, romance movies, party planning, HBO and beauty now.
