I have no idea if this information is correct, but I've been reading this morning that Google, and indeed Bing, penalise content where the summary is more than one to two sentences long (because it's used as a meta description?) Does anyone know if this is the case?

Can you post a link to your source?

I don't think you get penalized, per se - the text gets cut off in the search results. That's why we have a built-in limit in our description field.
