Wizzley Spotlight Month of ___________?

One of the things I enjoy on Squidoo is browsing through the list of newly published lens every week that get spotlighted in a forum thread called Spotlight of the Week. I just like to look for things that interest me and then visit the page, leave a comment on their questbook, participate in the polls, etc. It's a great way to get to learn news things, meet new people through their work and make some friends along the way.

I looked for a similar thing here on Wzzley and did not find it. I am wondering if it made sense to have a Wizzley Spotlight of the Month (weekly may be too short I assume) or something similar. I think what really makes them work on Squidoo is that they also have strict rules such as only one lens per post, no droplinking, no critiquing etc.

Would love to hear what other Wizzley members and the Wizzley team think of the idea.

Thanks.

Have you checked out the Editor's Choice Wizzleys? That sounds like the same idea.

Digby_Adams,

By that if you mean Kock Your Socks Off (Not Yor Own), yes I have looked through quite a few and do that often.

This idea is a bit different. You can spotlight your own or someone else's article that's been published for that time-period with a one-sentence or so of an introduction. Others browsing can choose to visit if they like. Most people, as expected, display their own. :-)

Editor's Choice serves its purpose, which is to spotlight sterling articles. But beauty - and quality - is in the eye of the beholder after all. Also, Wizzley's directory displays its articles based on a formula, as long as my knowledge goes, that's probably largely based on traffic, meaning SEO optimization.

All the articles that have been published here meet at least a minimum Wizzley criteria so they are at least that good. Beyond that, why not give the community a chance to browse through the articles? I'm sure there are some hidden gems - may be diamonds in rough - that get little attention and with some encouragement can get better and have a chance to shine.

I may be wrong, but I am thinking that there is a long tail here with top 20% getting most of the attention, which I am sure they deserve. All I am saying is why not have a place where the 80% can display their work on the forums in the hopes of getting some love from the community. (Where they can do the same for others.) Smile

Edited: To remove the question "How do I browse by topics?" Duh!

When I want to find something new to read on Wizzley, I go to the home page, then choose one of the topics at the bottom of the page.

Then on the topic page, choose New at the top.

I can only imagine how spammy that part of the forum would get and I'm not sure what it would give Wizzlers that the New Pages section doesn't. I often look at both the New Pages section and the New Authors section and comment when I see something that fascinates me.

I have also found this community to be incredibly supportive. Many of them know each other from Hubpages or Squidoo, but I'm a newcomer and they've been reading and commenting and made me feel quite welcome.

But as always I will defer to the Wizzley team, if they think that this is a good idea.

The hand-picked selection for "Editor's Choice" is subjective by nature. We usually highlight articles that are exemplary in a certain way, e.g. superb product reviews, extremely well presented topics, beautiful layouts, smart optimization, etc., or a combination thereof.

It's in no way a "fair" system, as we have many more outstanding articles than we have space under the E.C. tab. I'm sorry and happy about that.

The purpose is to showcase some of the best of Wizzley - right away on our home page. And to give those authors some extra exposure.

The point system, however, and the resulting placements in our "Most popular" or "Buzzing" tabs are based on a series of factors, such as comments, click-outs, preview pic, modules used, and several more.

To find "hidden gems" on Wizzley, simply follow Terri's method from above.  Smile
