Dota 2 Beta Invite through Valve's Official Survey

Original method of obtaining Dota 2 Beta Invite

Dota2 Beta InviteApplying for a Survey?

This is the most fundamental way to acquire your Beta Invite from Valve, and is done by completing a survey created by Valve. Follow the link here which redirects to the Steam's official survey page.

What does the Survey ask?

The survey consists of handful of questions regarding your experience playing the original Warcraft III DotA game. One of the example is: "Please estimate your skill level in DotA". Most questions are straight forward, but some specific questions such as "...Average deaths at the end of your DotA match" can be quiet tricky if you weren't a frequent DotA player.

Alright, I've finished my Survey. What now?

As written above, based on my experience of performing two surveys. The Beta Invite can arrive after 4 or 5 months after the you have applied. Yes, this is a very long wait time! That is why I chose to buy a Dota 2 Beta Invite through Steam and this cost me a whole $40.00 USD (price depends based on region). But some friendly traders like myself can offer you a trade-able Dota 2 Beta Invite for a very affordable price. If you are not a waiting-guy like me, then feel free to read the guide below how to purchase a trade-able Dota 2 Beta Invite.

Waiting for a Dota 2 Beta Invite from Valve?

League of Legends by Riot Games.

LoLPlay the alternative: League of Legends.

Yes you would have heard about it somewhere, the game your friend loves but you're not sure of. The League of Legends was developed by Riot Games and was released on October 27, 2009 with a genre of MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) in attempt to be set apart from the original DotA genre.

The game is free-to-play and is based on the original game DotA (Defense of the Ancients) in Warcraft III. And was successful in creating a large community of players world wide, but however to absence of "denying" system which orignially existed in DotA as well as Dota 2, many pre DotA players denied to play the game with the reason being "Too easy without denying in game". Followed by many other criticisms such as poor in-game graphic visuals and in-game mechanics.

note: The above contents may be biased due to the content-creator's strong background of DotA experience. Please understand :)

But seriously, it's a very well designed game focused on fast paced action strategy with over millions of players already playing right now. For a more in-depth look on League of Legends, please visit here (future article).

Still Waiting for a Dota 2 Beta Invite from Valve?

Heroes of Newerth by S2 Games.

HoNTry the alternative: Heroes of Newerth.

This DotA alternative is less familiar than LoL but has achieved a fairly good implementation of the original DotA with added new custom hero themes and play styles. Heroes of Newerth was released on May 12, 2010 by S2 Games first with a price but now free-to-play.

Compared to LoL, the game has relatively less active players. One of the reason was due to lack of swift customer service and long periods of server down times. Through communities, HoN held an image of 'cash-cows' with strong focus on in-game contents such as: alternative avatars, which was purchased through real money. The game is relatively polish and easy to follow. For more information on Heroes of Newerth, please refer to my article here (building).
