Living With Lactose Intolerance Symptoms

Even if you have been diagnosed with lactose intolerance, that does not mean that your life is over. There are ways to live with lactose intolerance and still be free.

Lactose Intolerance Symptoms Do Not Mean An End To Life

Some people mistakenly think that when they find out they are lactose intolerant, their life as they know it is over.

This assumption may come with good reason.  In many instances, the reason someone finds out they are lactose intolerant is because they have suddenly realized that it is dangerous for them to go out and eat with everyone else.  They discover that some nasty symptoms may occur without warning after they eat.  So, they have become accustomed to locking themselves away inside the safety of their house.

Fortunately, this does not have to be the case.  There are a few different ways to deal with the symptoms of lactose intolerance.

One way is to simply watch the foods you are eating.  Avoid the foods that contain dairy products.  If you are eating out, it is better to avoid everything that even looks suspicious.  At home, you may be able to experiment to find out exactly what works and what doesn't.

There are also alternative products that are available to substitute for dairy products.  In most places this may not be an option away from home.  However, there are even some restaurants that are staring to offer alternatives.  As an example, Mellow Mushroom offers soy cheeses on their pizza.  (As a side note for those with gluten intolerance, they also offer gluten free crust.)

One last option is to try the over the counter medications designed to help your body digest lactose.  Some people find that they work awesomely.  For other people, they don't work at all.  So, it would be better to experiment at home.  Even if they do work, you need to remember to take these before you are going to eat dairy products.

Some people prefer to use almond milk as their substitute for cow's milk.  The problem is that almond milk bought in the store can become very costly.

It is much less expensive to make almond milk at home.  However, this can be a complicated process if you do not have the proper equipment to make the almond milk.

An almond milk maker can come in very handy for those who experience lactose intolerance symptoms.  It can simplify the process so that making almond milk at home becomes an enjoyable experience.
