The Lincoln Theatre Columbus Ohio

by katiem2

Ohio brought a significant and historical treasure back to life in the heart of our city, Columbus Ohio. The Lincoln theater restoration project brought the theater back to life.

The theatre is located on Long Street in King-Lincoln District, near the King Arts Complex.

CAPA headed the restoration project and I was one of the lucky few who got to witness it first hand as a friend was working on the project. I even met and talked with Mayor Mike who is very proud of this amazing historical project and what it offers our community!

The Lincoln Theater is breath taking with its 600 close intimate seating layout. It has an 1928 Egyptian style which is found both surprising and delightful to visitors.

Do watch the amazing video by our beloved Angela Pace as she takes you on a video tour of the beautiful restoration and tells you of the rich history and story of the Amazing Lincoln, this is one you won't want to miss!

The Lincoln Theatre in its Hay Day

The Lincoln was the lively home to great jazz legends.

In it's prime the Lincoln was a hot spot for jazz legends, being a fan of jazz myself I envisioned the greats I had heard stories about playing there such as; Count Basie, James Brown, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and Columbus’ own Nancy Wilson. It was thrilling sending chills down my spine knowing such greats once performed where I stood. What a masterpiece of history we have here in Columbus Ohio.

Again teh Egyptian look was adorn with paintings all over the ceiling and stage area. This is one place you have got to witness first hand as mere words cannot express the magic and energy of this rich theatre.

The Lincoln is now opened with a diverse schedule of performers and one place you def want to put on your list of must sees of Columbus Ohio!

The Restoration of Lincoln Theater

There was much work to be done to restore the theater to the vision of the modern city.

Much passion and devotion went into the project.  Mayor Mike Coleman took great pride and care in the planning and development of the cities beloved Lincoln Theater.

katiem2, Thank you for the restoration history. It's a tribute to the original construction that almost 100 years later its design, materials and purpose are passing the test of time. Do you know if any live performer has been back for the restoration?
