Top Valentines Movies for Singles

by NateB11

Love lost or unrequited love are harsh on the heart. Being single is tough in general. But there is relief, in the form of cinema. Laughing or crying, it's good therapy.

Well, for singles because these movies are about those who are yearning for someone but can't quite reach them. It's for the boy or girl you lost or the one too far away.

You know, when you're single, the whole game seems rigged. But there is such a thing as a happy ending.

Some movies give us a little hope. Or a few laughs. Maybe some scares. Point is, let's ease the burden of our plight.

Lake House

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock

It's truly an incredible love story. These two people are at different timelines, unable to connect. Does love find a way? You'll have to watch to find out.

Fact is, the movie is a heart-render as well as a mind-bender. Boy and girl communicate through letters left in a mailbox at a lake house they'd both stayed at, at separate times. Throughout the movie, we are trying to figure out how this is working, how it will work out and whether the two will connect, at the right time, at the right place, without tragedy befalling them. Well, the tragedy might or might not take place on Valentine's day.

You have to watch it to see what it's all about, and, mostly, to see what happens.

Two people have stayed at the same Lake House at different times, and are mysteriously communicating with each other through notes slipped into the mailbox. Love builds as messages are passed, but there seems to be no way for them to meet.

Do they meet? Find out and watch the movie!

You've Got Mail

Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks

Well, it's happening in this one too. The two lovebirds are communicating but unable to connect. They are messaging through email and, again, develop a deep and passionate relationship. But they never see each other. Though maybe they already know each other. Maybe.

Of course, Tom Hanks is always fun to watch and Meg Ryan is a joy. There's a certain suspense to this one, keeping you on pins and needles to see if they ever hook up.

Time After Time

Malcolm McDowell and Mary Steenburgen

I've included this movie, though it's very much a thriller and a suspenseful movie. You'll be scared witless as well as pulled into the romance of it.

Malcolm McDowell is HG Wells, who's invented a time machine. Jack the Ripper steals the machine and escapes to 20th Century America. HG Wells is able to follow him, but can't stop his murders. HG falls in love with a beautiful banker played by Mary Steenburgen and you can imagine the rest, considering there's an insane killer on the loose.

Great fun though. It will keep you on the edge of your seat!

HG Well traipses across time to catch a killer and finds his lover in danger. But he can't reach to save her. Does he ever stop the killer?

High Fidelity

John Cusack

Well, this movie is for when you need a little comic relief. Jack Black and John Cusack will assure you of that.

It's all about that love you lost and being not too happy she's found someone else. It's about running a record store with goofy employees. It's about the fun 90s when people cared and didn't mind being nice and sensitive. My kind of movie.

Something About Mary

Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller

Ben Stiller and Matt Dillon will have you rolling on the floor laughing and Cameron Diaz will have you pining like these two guys.

There are quite a few hilarious scenes in this one and it will have you laughing at yourself for yearning for that one that everyone seems to have the hots for.

Yep, there's something about Mary.

Finally....

So, those are the top Valentine's Day movies, according to me.

Well, heck, maybe you finally did get together with that special someone, and you can watch these movies for the nostalgia of remembering your struggle to get together.

Then I guess these singles movies are couples movies too!

They are a lot of fun, you're right, Mira. I haven't see that one with Drew Barrymore, I'll have to check it out.

Rom coms can be fun, and these are some good ones. I also liked that one with Drew Barrymore where she's amnesiac and lives every date as a first date. I see now it's with Adam Sandler. I don't like Adam Sandler but remember this movie as a good one. I have, of course, seen many others: When Harry Met Sally, etc.

I totally agree, WriterArtist.

Love has miraculous ways to bind the lovers, distance and communication do not deter the lovers. The movies are worth watching especially on a Valentine's Day.
