Wall Decals

by lakeerieartists

Wall decals are one of the hottest, easiest, and fastest ways to update a room for very little money, yet the results are spectacular.

It is not surprising that wall decals have become so popular, so fast. Wall decals are extremely inexpensive to buy, they can be applied and removed easily, and they perk up an old tired room with very little time or work.

Wall decals used to just show famous sports personalities or movie figures, but while those were great for fans of those people, for the rest of us, well, putting a giant picture of a person on our wall was not our style of decorating our homes.

Wall Decals are Easy to Use

And can be changed at any time.

That has all changed now, because although you can still get the Fathead sports wall decals, there are a lot of new decorative wall decals that will make an older room look fresh and new, and a newly painted room more fun, and inviting.  This idea is especially great for children's bedrooms, because they grow so fast, and their likes and dislikes change quickly over the years.

Have you ever used Wall Decals in your home?

Wall Decals Brighten Up a Baby's Bedroom

Colorful and fun

If you are expecting a new baby, you will likely freshen up a room with paint and new curtains, bedding, and bright, colorful decorations.

Often new parents create rooms for infants that will entertain them, and be happy places with pictures of animals, clowns or other child themes.  When we decorated our baby's room 18 years ago, we put up a border around the walls that was difficult to remove when she got older.  Therefore, she lived in a baby's room until she was a teenager.

Now, however, we wouldn't have the same situation, because you can decorate a baby's room with the same paint, but use wall decals anywhere in the room that you want to add colorful designs appropriate for an infant.  And when they get older, and want dinosaurs, or trucks on their walls, you can just remove them, and switch them out for new wall decals.

Teens are Very Hard to Please

But wall decals allow them to decorate their own room.

Teenagers are notoriously hard to please when it comes to just about everything, and that includes their bedroom decor.

However, wall decals are not permanent, so if you don't want them painting skulls on their bedroom walls, you can accomodate their moods with inexpensive skull wall decals that can be removed when they decide that goth is no longer their thing.  Wall decals are easy enough to put up that a teenager can do it by themselves, and you don't have to worry about safety, or getting the entire room full of glue or paint.

Because most wall decals cost well under $50, you don't have to spend an arm and a leg everytime your teen changes their mind, (which will be quite often).

Wall Decals are for More Than Just Bedrooms

They can be wiped and cleaned.

Just because wall decals are ideal for children's bedrooms, do not think that they are limited to decorating kids' rooms.  Wall decals are also good for decorating other parts of the house.

Wall decals are made of a plastic material; they work well in any room that needs to be cleaned often, for example a kitchen or bathroom.

Grown Up Wall Decals

Using wall decals for bathrooms, dining rooms, kitchens and more

Wall decals make great decorative additions for other rooms besides bedrooms, such as bathrooms, dining rooms, and kitchens.  Wall decals can be cleaned while they are on the wall, making them a good decorative addition for a kitchen or a bathroom, and they accent a large room like a dining room, taking a room from boring to trendy in just a few minutes.

Accent decals can be placed along a window, above a molding, or in a small space to add interest.  Some wall decals are silouhettes that add dimension to your room, while others may be a border, or a sprinkling of designs.

Wall decals are extremely versatile as decorative enhancements in any room, and are easy to change or remove, so that you are not stuck with any design that you do not like, and can restore a room to blandness for renting or selling a house.

For an accent in any room, or a bit of color in a bedroom, living room, office, or bathroom, flower decals look great, and are easy to put up and take down.

I actually used colorful butterfly wall decals to add a "girly" touch to the plain black crib my daughter is using that was handed down from her big brother. They are removable and give her something to look at since she's too big to still have a crib mobile!

Love those wall pocket decals for a kids room! My daughter is using a wall decal in the nursery and it is really very nice.

You are terrible! Actually, we are buying a wall decal for our daughter's room that we are in the midst of repainting. Her walls will be green and the woodwork purple and white, and the decal will pull it all together.

Your article actually turned me on to check out some wall decals for my drab office walls. I'm such a failure at home decorating...sigh.
