Achieving Weight Loss Goals

With warmer weather approaching, beach days are ahead and so is a great time to initiate an exercise routine so you might feel more comfortable in that swimsuit!

There is a strong correlation between body weight and overall emotional, physical and mental health. If an individual is overweight there is an increased risk of developing health problems. If an individual feels overweight, is uncomfortable because of weight gain or is simply self-conscious about his or her size than odds are they are irritable, depressed, or perhaps feeling as though there is little hope for getting their body into good shape. It becomes a vicious cycle.

 Many people have a job that mandates they sit at a desk all day or a full schedule of obligations around the home after work, leaving little or no time for them to focus on themselves. However, these are essentially excuses and excuses do not help.  Realistically an individual does not have to engage in a grueling workout at the gym or join a high intensity dance class in order to lose weight and gain the additional benefits that exercise and becoming fit can deliver.  As a matter of fact, increased heart health can be achieved with as little as 30 minutes a day and this can cause significant difference overall. It can ward off or improve depression in addition to bringing about many other positive changes. Almost everyone probably knows that walking is a simple, easy form of exercise that can have a positive impact but in reality, gardening, bicycling and even housework requires movement. Movement is exercise and if you are trying to lose weight by exercising every bit of activity matters in the long run.

 An individual can lose weight by exercising and following a balanced diet. This does not happen immediately but requires a dedication and commitment to weight loss goals. A person will usually not lose weight exercising alone, or by fasting, the body needs to establish and maintain a healthy metabolism and proper nutrition is essential to attain this.

There are plenty of exercise machines and other exercise gadgets for sale in the marketplace. It is easy for someone that is feeling discouraged with their weight to fall prey to infomercials that promise rapid weight loss and promise that a person will lose stomach fat fast. The truth is you don’t have to spend money in order to exercise. You should also know that there is no specific exercise or device that is a solution for how to lose stomach fat fast. The only way to do this is to exercise and lose weight overall. Once this happens, the overall body fat content will change including the area around your stomach.

The primary thing to remember is that starting an exercise regime is a crucial step in weight loss but if you have not exercised in a long time you need to be realistic. Contrary to belief, you don’t have to break a sweat to be reaping the benefits. Start out with moderate exercise and gauge how you feel in a day or two. If you have overdone it, don’t increase your exercise immediately but maintain the level you are at. Consistency is most important in the early stages. It’s better to do 30 minutes daily than overdo it and be out of commission for days.  Don’t fall into the trap of believing the phrase, “no pain, no gain.” It is simply untrue.

The myths regarding weight loss are numerous.  The truth is simple. In order to lose weight you must burn fat. The best way to burn fat is to create a workout that include cardiovascular and strength-training. If you have existing health issues and cannot engage in rigorous activity, it is best to talk to your doctor. For example, if you have had surgery of the spine or perhaps a knee replacement, you may be better off not engaging in some types of workout or physical activity.  This does not mean that you can’t exercise; it simply means that your exercise routine may need to be adapted.  A physician can advise you on what exercises and activity could be of benefit to you. They key is exercising to lose weight and attain overall good health. To achieve success you must remain committed to keeping your body in motion and eating a well- balanced diet.

Get moving - that is the key to staying healthy and not just losing weight. I think people talk themselves out of even trying to get rid of extra weight because they believe that it has to be done a certain way.

RIght Mira, I agree . I've seen my brother "work" one part of the body and it also makes sense because different people have more "in tone" body parts, like a construction worker that constantly uses a jackhammer...and the appearance of his arms. I based this article on current information from sources like the Mayo clinic, AMA, and a current fitness/weight loss report I read in the Doctors office. Though I didn't completely agree, I felt that I should put it out there. Thanks for your input!

There are actually ways to work out and see effects in different parts of the body but I do agree that it's best anyway to work the whole body -- that way we get even more benefits overall.
