How to Cure a Wound in a Duck
Yes, I've heard that. I've heard sugar has some of the same properties. I think the difference here is that it's easier to make a paste with sugar that will stay on the animal. And the betadine will help too.

How to Cure a Wound in a Duck
We used honey dressings for certain kinds of wounds in the Critical Care Unit where I worked. Many bacterias cannot grow in the presence of honey. THey have found perfectly good honey in jars in ...

Brenda, I look forward to reading your article, you have me very curious now. My daughters are both in high school now. I won't go into details, they would kill me but they are both very dynamic young ladies, they deal with many social issues ...

Discriminating Prejudice Against Pretty People
Katie, I have been thinking of writing an article along the same line. I have some specific examples to give. I'll write it with a different spin and link to yours. I couldn't click on any of your polls, because none of the questions pertain to ...

Discriminating Prejudice Against Pretty People
I had to smile to find this here today, as I've just been reading about the same debates, but over 150 years ago.
I've just finished re-reading Jane Eyre (and got a lot more out of it than I did when I was 15!). One of the most radical things ...

Is Your Home Safe for a Deaf Person?
My alarm is under my pillow for this very reason. <3
And I can soooo emphasize with the direction of sound thing. Have you ever watched the stereo hearing people? A sound comes and they just turn their heads into its direction. It's weird.

A Foreigner’s Guide to Tipping in the USA
I've worked in a lot of crummy jobs that paid minimum wage but did not require being tipped. The 20% rule is usually what I go by for waitresses and adjust up or down for service.

Yes I love the pink, my daughters do too! Great to see they've made these toys more girly as girls do love these sort of toys. They also gain amazing skills from playing with them. Girls can be mechanical. My youngest daughter can take anything ...

How to Become an Activist
I'm glad that you liked it. :) And thank you for your work.
I'm a vegetarian, so I know what you mean. I've encountered people who have become furious, absolutely red in the face and shouting, once they learn that I don't eat meat. I'm not ...

Sleeping Beauties: The Victorians and Post-Mortem Photography
Oh! It would be interesting to find out. The key seems to be that the memento mori are studio shots. But it doesn't follow that every photograph taken in a studio in Victorian times includes a dead person.

Selling Dreams
It's nice to read about somebody advocating a "simple" life. Being conscious is key to avoiding lame marketing lies. Thanks for sharing your insights!

How to Become an Activist
Very good article. I think I belong to the group of "one-hour activists" :-)
As a vegan I know how it feels to be confronted with utterly illogical arguments and sheer cretinism.
