Hi crissaegrim, I liked your article. Maybe you'll turn some of the people who visit onto chess. I think it's a wonderful game for preteen parties as well. I remember one such party myself, where we played some chess. It was really exciting, with people cheering for one player or the other, and stepping in to play with the winner of each game. It was wonderful :-)

I agree with the points you have highlighted. Fairy tales help children understand the way life works, with its sorrows, its trials, and the preseverance and difficult experiences that lead to success. It also helps them put themselves in the shoes of other people and see many points of view. I also think it's wonderful when people read these stories to their children or grandchildren, or when they memorize them and share them that way -- I have wonderful memories, for instance, of my grandmother, who told me stories I didn't even find elsewhere.

Wow, I didn't know they were on the document heritage list. Also, you make a great point about the Calvinistic roots of many of the stories. I also liked your point about fairy tales uniting a Germany divided into many sovereign states. Great article! I'm so happy someone here on Wizzley writes about fairy tales, as I still read them often and find new interesting meanings each time.

I am just getting around to reading this, but it makes you out to be the wonderful person I always suspected you were from your numerous comments around Wizzley.

I have tried many different pots and pans in last decades and I must say: good cooking starts with a good pan. I prefer stainless steel although in some cases non sticking pans are great and iron wok is a must for some recipes, everything in my kitchen is based on one good pan.

I just bought myself a new little Weber grill. I like to grill in summer so as not to heat up the kitchen (I don't have AC) and like to have it handy year round for power outages.

My best advice would be to have enough rest. Sleep as much as you can and your body will be in much better shape for all the challenges, including the heat. Enough drink (I don't like cold drink too) is also a must.

This certainly looks tempting. I was making for some time years ago something similar but based on onion (it was french recipe and I don't think it was so healthy...) and with bread cubes.
Maybe I should give a try to eggplant too? I like creamy food with some texture. Thanks for the idea:)

Thanks, Mira, for your visit and comment. Sometimes (well, probably always) knowing the background of the story adds another perspective and in HC Andersen's case we really see his writing in new light if we know the circumstances in which he was living and writing.

This article reminds me of the many summers when my Dad barbecued our evening meals. I can still taste his chicken and burgers and steaks and . . . .

I've only visited that once, but it was a lovely part of the country. I'm going to Leicester next week, so I'll be passing through again. I love the idea of the roundheads, but not the actuality of Cromwell.
