Fun idea for a birthday cake that's easy, too.

I have a friend who lives in a very high crime area of L.A. She keeps a notebook in her car, and when she finishes shopping, she sits in the car writing down the receipts. I recently had a discussion with her on this, and told her she shouldn't do it. It didn't do any good. We all think it's not going to happen to us.

I always think loose leaf tea tastes so much better.

I adore princess Di, she was and will always be a great role model for everyone, especially women. We all have a bit of princess in us and make the world a better place by acting as such. :)K

Brenda, That is a very good point. Something I should have included is the fact that women spend a lot of time in their cars once they arrive somewhere. Studies show women park in a parking lot or garage and then proceed to gather themselves together, touch up makeup, all they while not being attentive to their surroundings, where as men tend to move very matter of fact and efficient also very aware of what's going on around them. Women are better targets simply due to their habits alone. Women should take note of these habits, form the new habit of locking their doors at all times, especially once parked and taking time to look around them observing whats going on, where they are and who's in the area. Look for security, police and other helpful public figures. Secure all items before getting out of the car and walk in a safe, stay on task manner.

Brenda, Yes there is and then there are the likes of me who are loners. I feel we creative writer types are often the hardest people to be married to. I've always had the issue of alone time, I crave alone time, peace quiet and tranquility. Where as my ex's have always wanted to spend more time with me than I was willing or capable of giving. They always end up feeling second to my work. I love my work, am a bit of a workaholic, my craft consumes me, can't help it wouldn't have it any other way. I think you and I are more alike on that than you realize. My ex-husband always warned his friends about marrying a writer, he said it's a very lonely relationship going from all to nothing when she works. :( Some of us just aren't cur out for it.

I was born in Rugby and visited Ashby-de-la Zouche a few times with my parents as a kid. I was always more of a roundhead at heart- pretty as the royalist villages tend to be.

I love all of your food articles. You eat the kind of breakfast I like. A typical American breakfast is very high in sugar, carbs and fat. Yuck!

I keep looking at the composition of the St. Lucia Celebration -- quite interesting: nice and simple, emphasizing vertical planes in the foreground, middle ground, and background. It was great to read about him. Maybe I'll get to Sweden one day and see his house :-)

Hi Tolovaj, what a great article! I will never read his fairy tales the same way. Next time I will pay attention to all those dramatic tricks he employs to make us empathize with his characters, as you say.

Great advice Katie. I think being aware of your surroundings at all times is important, and it's something that women forget to do.
