Should You Tell People That You are Deaf in One Ear?

I'm sorry that your hearing is deteriorating. :( It sounds like you're rapidly moving from the simple sort of partial deafness (all about volume) to the utterly complicated (now I hear you, now I don't). The stereo people can't get their heads around that one.

But it's not so bad. You get to sleep through loud noises in the street!

I was already half deaf as a teenager and I still listened to my music turned up too loudly! Who needs hearing anyway? :p

Dealing With Insecure Coworkers-Survival Tips

Thanks for the great article. Am I ever glad I don't work out in the jungle anymore. I especially liked the part about how women handle conflict. If you want to see a bunch of back stabbing women, go teach in elementary school. lol

Mung Bean Detox and Weight Loss Soup

Thanks for the article, Katie. I'm going to try this. I may have to order from Amazon. Here in the South, it's hard to find anything that isn't required in Southern cooking.

Should You Tell People That You are Deaf in One Ear?

I meant I now have trouble hearing with the hearing aid, not the other ear.

Should You Tell People That You are Deaf in One Ear?

Jo, I love your articles on deafness. As I mentioned before, I lost 35% of my hearing in my left ear when I was 33 years old. That was about 30 years ago. It seems to be getting worse, and I'm going to make an appointment to go see the audiologist. I may be losing some hearing in the other ear. I don't know. I'm now having trouble hearing with the other ear. The most noticeable thing that has happened recently is when my phone rings. I can't tell which direction it's coming from. I run all over the room looking for it and usually miss the call. I'm constantly asking people to repeat themselves. I'm concerned that I'm going to lose all of my hearing and should be doing something now to prepare for it like learning to lip read or learning sign language.

We were all told when we were teenagers to turn down the rock music or we were going to be deaf. Did I listen? Nooooooo! Of course, that was because I was a teenager and thought I was invincible like all teenagers think. lol

Thanks for the article!

How to Start Homeschooling Your Child

I'm a former teacher, and I've got to hand it to mom's who homeschool. It's a lot of work and responsibility.

How Not to Write

So true. I try to picture myself as one of those people who can sit and write and ignore whatever is going on around me.

I'm keenly aware of the 'just noise' aspect :) I'd forgotten that you mentioned that stereo hearing people favour one ear over another. That filter ear sounds useful.

Should You Tell People That You are Deaf in One Ear?

As I have mentioned to you before, those with stereo hearing have a dominant and a weak ear (as you will notice by which ear they hold the phone to). The dominant ear is for listening to the important sounds, or what you are actively listening to, and the weak ear is for filtering out the background noise. Without the two ears working together there is just noise (as you are well aware).

SusanM: A Wizzography

I find I get more in from Amazon than Adsense. I tend to think of Adsense as a bonus. I don't dedicate articles to it.

We'll have to do an online *high five* when we hit 100. I'm working on new articles now. Hoping to load another 8 tomorrow. My aim is to reach 100 within the next two weeks because there's a few Halloween ones in this lot and I want to give them time to get indexed on Google before Halloween.
