Thanks so much for posting this!! I have substantial hearing loss in my left ear - due to a severe infection when I was in grade school - but never really connected it to the difficulty I have in sorting out sounds in busy environments.

Thank you frugalrvers - it is difficult to be positive with my son's behavior the way it is sometimes. He thinks life would be easier with his father instead of here where I make him do things that he doesn't like. I make him do things that are right for him and will make him grow into a respectable young man. I won't back down from that. Yes... I have to separate the behavior because I do not like it at all. But I love my son dearly and more than he will ever know. Thanks for reading and commenting!

Such a painful experience, Angel. I had a good, healthy relationship with my only child much of her life. Though she didn't have ODD, she was alienated from me for a few years and turned into someone I never knew, saying terribly hurtful things. Apparently she had to do this to cope, not being allowed to love both parents. Our story has a happy ending now and we got through, but the key for parents is, no matter what, don't take it personally. We had to remind ourselves that we can love the child while loathing the behaviors. Separate the behavior out and you can find the strength inside. Take care of yourself - I'm sure it is heartbreaking and difficult...

I usually write any letters straight from the heart, and that includes love letters. Although I have to admit that I haven't written many. This is a great reminder for all of us, especially right before Valentine's Day. :)
