Drinkwell Original Pet Fountain

The Drinkwell Original was the first fountain offering from the company.  Because of this, the features you’ll find with this model are quite basic.  If you are the owner of a single cat, the Original will probably fit your needs just fine.  Here’s what the fountain delivers:

• Five inch falling stream of water from your cat to drink from
• Water capacity of 50 ounces
• Filtration system designed to keep water in the fountain clean and fresh
• Efficient electric motor that is designed to run quietly

The Original Drinkwell fountain is meant to be used for cats only as the water supply is not sufficient enough for most dogs.  The fountain will likely last about two to three days without having to be refilled.  It’s recommended that you only use this fountain if you have one cat in your household.  If you are a dog owner or have multiple cats, the Drinkwell Platinum pet fountain is a better option for you as the model has increased water capacity.

As with all Drinkwell models, the Original unit has replaceable filters that need to be changed about once per month.  The charcoal filters help keep the water in the fountain fresh for your pet and it’s a good idea to stock up on filters when you purchase the fountain.

Unfortunately, there is a bit of maintenance required with this fountain, but there is a cleaning kit to help you with this chore.  The Drinkwell cleaning kit is an inexpensive tool kit that will save you time during the cleaning process.  It’s recommended that you wash out the fountain on a weekly basis with a more thorough cleaning once a month.  Proper cleaning will help the fountain last longer as well as make sure your pet’s water is always clean.
