What Don't you Know About Pagan Weddings?

Hi all,

Now that Anne has kindly provided a Pagan Ceremonies sub-category in Weddings, the lovely Bard of Ely and I have been busy filling it.

We've mustered up three articles between us during the last few hours (and are there any more Pagans here?  We need you!).   But what do you want to hear about?   I understand that the whole area of Pagan Weddings may be a little alien to some people.  You are precisely the ones who could best give us ideas.

The whole sub-category would ideally be a one-stop reference and shopping place for all things Handfasting.   The trouble is we're too close to the subject!  I know that I'm missing the basics, so please do shout up if you can think of a good article for it.

I (or Steve, or another Pagan here) will do my best to write it.

yours

Jo

I've read through a couple and they make perfect sense to me. If I come across something I'd like to know more about I'll ask here.

I'm not pagan but I like supporting and raising awareness of various pagan traditions, because I like religious diversity and I generally think that diversity in religion is important in reaching truth and advancing society.

Some topics I can think of that I would be interested in reading about include:

  • How various pagan marriage ceremonies differ from the marriage ceremonies of mainstream religions
  • The history of pagan marriage ceremonies--how are they different nowadays from pre-Christianity (and what is known of this sorts of stuff?)  And were there any pagan marriage ceremonies carried out during Christian times when Pagan views were actively suppressed?
  • Are there any ways in which the marriage ceremonies of mainstream religions like Christianity have been influenced by pagan traditions, the way other celebrations like Christmas, Easter, and church liturgy have many pagan influences?

Just a few ideas that come to mind!

Oh!  Sorry Cazort, I missed this!

Thank you very much for the article suggestions.  I'll see what I can do.
