Click on the link and scroll down to take the test. This test was emailed to me as part of a Google Group for writers. From those who posted, the scores ranged tremendously.

The 25 Most Commonly Misspelled Words

To quote the email that was sent to the group:

"If you want to take it, I'd be curious to see what kind of scores our {writers} get!"

To quote from the email sent to me:

"A PhD teacher of college-level English got 22 out of 27 right, as did an experienced editor."

P.S. I also got 22 points out of 27.

26/27 - danged American English caught me out, why can't you guys spell correctly? Should have guessed you would drop the 'e'.

I only got supersede right 'cos I always get it wrong!

And the UK spelling of license can also be 'licence', dependent upon meaning.

I also take issue with 'dependent', as it is dependent upon whether I am a dependant, or not (which is the one I got wrong). I obviously don't know what an adjective is!

23.  That was hard!

Having once worked in a British law firm I'm embarrassed that I inadvertently made the wrong judgement call on the last one.  I too find my spell check indispensable.

Wink Practice makes perfect, right?!
