What do you mean with "idiot box"? Television? Achim "Chef Keem" Thiemermann is the co-founder of a pretty cool new platform called...um...er...oh, yeah - Wizzley.com.

No, because the internet is also a resource for information and learning, as opposed to the television which most of the time airs a great deal of rubbish which we allow to wash over us. |

I'd have to disagree also - I'm mostly using my computer at the moment to develop software which actually requires thought rather than being sat there watching mindless television! |

I had a morning of flipping from FB to email, to checking forums.....pretty close to mindless. I also watch movies on it (no tv). But I'm having a bad day - not feeling great. Other days I do use it as a tool. Lana or LIl aka Ragtimelil RagtimeLil's Store on Weebly

The computer/internet has made me wiser, smarter, and knowledgeable it's lead me to every single point of happiness in my "work" life and makes anyone a David where in the real world Goliath is too powerful to get a toe into certain things. I'd have to say honestly that the computer is the most significant invention since the apple tree that god created (tree of wisdom ironically). I've been able to cast all my skills into motion, create skill sets without paying for an education, and to forge incredible things- idiot box would be the complete opposite of how I see the computer/internet. I'd still be ringing up groceries or bouncing from one job to the next if I didn't work completely online and I'd have likely none of the success or resources I've acquired over the years- it's simply easier to thrive with a computer than a resume. Oh and since I met my fiance online, I'd of likely not found the most amazing love I've ever even seen, because she was a state over and other than the computer we'd of never found one another. |

2uesday hit the nail on the head in my view. Both the computer and television are what one makes of them. If one is mindless then they are perfect fodder for the masses. If one has a need to discover, then they can be tools to satiate that need. I rarely watch anything on the TV other than documentaries (on any subject, from astronomy to physics, natural world to history, travel to current news events). My computer supplements the knowledgebase formed from those documentaries, and satiates my curiosity in all possible ways. Both TV and computers can be 'idiot boxes', but they can also be facilitators of wonderment, the like of which I am glad to have as a part of my learning world. Https://chazfox.com/
