Wow! You have to find some other way to pass the day! I hate when that happens but I also am happy when that happens and I HAVE to find something else to do. My eyes also appreciate the rest. |

It's not just about "passing the day", Sheri...it's my livelihood. But there's a chance that I can pick it up in about 2 hours, IF the last tests don't turn up anything serious. Achim "Chef Keem" Thiemermann is the co-founder of a pretty cool new platform called...um...er...oh, yeah - Wizzley.com.

I really don't mean to drop a link (or suggest it)...but I can't resist. You HAVE to read my most recent blog post on my rv site, Chef...in my cheap rv link in my Wizzley forum signature. You'll understand why (of course, wait until you have a computer to use to do so...haha) In 2009 we sold everything and hit the road! Follow us on our blog at Cheap RV Living

Read your post, Robin. Unfortunately, I get paid only if I DO use the internet. But I'm totally confident that I'd be fine without it, if I were in a different line of work. I tried it out during my stints as an Alaska lodge chef. Yes, I got my computer back. All they did was change the oil (PLUS filter), properly inflate the tires, and smack it someplace only the experts know about. $75. Works like a charm...oh!...wait...what th'...*hiss*...*sizzle*...he..l..p...!...
Thank you all for your expressions of sympathy. You helped me through this valley of darkness. Achim "Chef Keem" Thiemermann is the co-founder of a pretty cool new platform called...um...er...oh, yeah - Wizzley.com.

Glad you are up and running, Chef! We are the same...we make our living, in this frugal rv lifestyle, by blogging, freelance writing, selling on ebay/amazon...every penny that supports our life is tied to the internet. That is the sad irony...we wanted to "unplug" from everything, yet are dependent on the internet to survive. One day...I know we can unplug for good. We really, really hope we can someday. In Montana, our "true home" - there are very few places with cell reception (mifi included) in the mountains...so no internet is a challenge to make our living. Ah well...good to see you again!

Must be a relief.... Ahhh Keem. Why do I hear these stories from so many people? I have a backup strategy for my desktop. It is called a laptop. Two computers mean that one never has an unscheduled day off. Https://chazfox.com/

We have a laptop but my wife needs it for her stuff, all day long. So I get to use it only during her short breaks. However, since I've found this great new service company, I'll probably let them have a look at my old ibook, which died 2 years ago because of battery problems. If they can revive it, we'll have 2 back-up laptops. Achim "Chef Keem" Thiemermann is the co-founder of a pretty cool new platform called...um...er...oh, yeah - Wizzley.com.

My laptop is my main computer, but now that I have an iPhone, I use it a lot for smaller stuff like email, and quick checks. Luckily at our house we have 3 laptops and a desktop, not including my daughter's (currently at college). If I really have to, I can borrow my younger daughter's computer if mine is out of order.
