Michelle Stumbled upon this article about neutrinos and time travel and even a theory about clairvoyance being neutrinos from the future carrying information back to the past and being "read" by people with "the vision" but really just an ability to read neutrinos... pretty fascinating stuff!

As an historian, I'm so holding out for time travel to be invented.  It would revolutionize the study of any event.  We'd just go back with a camera and notebook.  :)

Sorry to say, but as it stands, neutrinos don't travel faster than light.

Physicists working at the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland on Friday concluded once and for all that neutrinos are definitely not faster than the speed of light, preserving Einstein’s Theory of Special Relativity that was challenged by earlier experiments.

Y u break my heart?!

I had plans!  First stop, a bargee camp in the 19th century, just to find out precisely who my gt-gt-grandmother was.  Then all infinity!!

I'll fix it by informing you that NASA are to begin working on developing a FTL drive! Here's the proposed design, it's still not confirmed it'll work at all, but it's something!

I believe in the multiverse theology, where every choice you make just takes you down a different "time" path, so if you did travel back in time you'd not be in the same time line but rather an alternate one that would have happened had you changed your choices at some specific point- thus changing history isn't really possible- changing a reality to another one that you know choices will build should be beneficial in THAT time line/verse... I just think it's fascinating to talk about/read about...

I can't imagine this being possible, what with chaos theory and all :(

No you have ruined time travel for Jo for ever. If that is true what you write, nobody could ever find out "the truth" about our past because in fact their would be an unlimited amounts of pasts available ;-) SY

Back to the drawing board.  I want time travel where I can take notes please.   Proper time travel.  Like 'Back to the Future'.

ok ok I have a time machine. It's small and portable, I can use it anywhere and I can set it to any time I need...

It's called a watch :)

No the multiverse theory wouldn't make it impossible to find the truth, the impossibility is that there is no truth, there is no spoon, the spoon does not bend, it is only yourself that bends - The Matrix.... I believe reality is not so static and fixed, it's more fluid and ever-changing and we're starting to realize how multidemensional our reality is.

The traveling would likely look pretty similar to that show sliders, same time, different verse, same type of reality but based on different choice "trunks"/trees and even different evolutionary paths based on those choices- it's possible human beings would have been frogs evolved into intelligent beings had earlier evolution of man gone different or maybe not... it's all theory in the end.

It goes to show how one decision can change an entire reality- i.e. Hitler never being born may have led the way for a much worse dictator, had vanilla Ice not made a fool of himself but with dope music, would white rappers be where they are today?... but again you wouldn't change your native time line, just the new one...

Oh boy I may need to post my time article, I just don't want to mop through the mud (I wrote it before I learned to write good *wink* (I know it's supposed to be "well")...

I'm working on a book/script/movie called "Awakena" based on time travel and "in life" reincarnation (moving through realities to your "other selves" on purpose and how dying just instantly throws you into another reality- not death, but most people don't realize it they just i.e. get into a horrible car accident and wake up alive, they died in one reality/verse and woke up in another possible reality where they didn't die, just got horribly mangled- to the person they just survived the crash but in reality (of my movie) they did die, but their soul shifted to another reality to reset and try to get it right this time. In my movie nobody truly dies or reincarnates long form (die, lives entire new life, dies, lives entire new life), they live until they die (naturally or otherwise) then are reset...

Awakena is essentially a term that means waking up, fully aware... it gets cooler when you factor in that there are an elite small group of people who are awake and realize this and actually don't fear or run from death, they embrace it when needed to move through to a new reality- it's much deeper and complex than this but I don't want to give away all the goodies... it wouldn't be an expensive movie to make it's mainly mind tripping stuff not special effects driven...

To further nurture these speculation: According to Einstein's equations, there's a chance that "faster than light" particles do exist, and that they may transmit information back in time. They are called Tachyons. Neutrinos have been suspected to have a tachyonic nature, but the thesis was proven wrong. Anyways, we're talking about transmitting information back in time - but in order to make time travel possible, we'd first need to invent something like beaming people from A to B Tongue Out.

'Time' is a third-dimensional concept that exists only in our conscious (3rd-dimensional) mind. Its limitations include a (gone) past, the present moment, and the (not-yet-happened) future.

Whenever we slip into a higher state of mind (4th dimensional, 'super conscious'), i.e., in dreams or meditation, we have no problems connecting with the past, or envisioning the future, because it is all part of the one, eternal moment of our existence. There is no 'linear time' in higher dimensions.

So, I don't think it makes sense to build a 3rd-dimensional time machine to explore 4th-dimensional stuff.

I have a friend who's a physicist.  He once told me that this can theoretically be done quite easily.  The problem comes with putting them back together again at the other end.  -.-

@Jo: *lol* Yeah, the first part is quite easy. It only requires a strong LASER beam :-D

It's probably a better idea to write a message *now* to your grand-grand-grand...children that they should come get you with their time machine when they have finally invented these things Laughing.

Or, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and ... GO!

If we've learned anything from Einstein, it's that we won't get there on physics alone.   Smiley

The movie Somewhere in time with Christopher Reeves (superman) comes to mind after reading chef's explanation- as for the teleportation devices there will likely never be a device capable of breaking apart atoms and reassembling them.

The latest news is that they are working diligently on a time/space bending technology (stable wormholes made to punch through time space to anther area creating a bridge) that would allow you to converge two points in space into a single space (wormhole) and walk instantly across from one to the other, no broken molecules- it would be no different from walking through any other door- however the problem right now isn't the wormhole but how to allow a human being to travel safely through one as nothing tends to survive even getting close to one!.

(this whole fascination with speeding up the molecules in the body and using a device to transport human beings to other places fast is pretty ridiculous if you ask me, reason being the sonic boom this would create when matter moved instantly from one place to the other (i.e. speed of light travel) the displacement of that matter would cause all the matter around it to snap together causing what would likely actually blow up your entire house or create a sonic wake that would take out a small town, one guy said it would be the hit of a 10 ton nuclear bomb.. A sonic boom happens in jets when they move so fast that they are leaving one space and almost instantly ending up in another (ahead), but this boom is controlled still- moving instantly from one spot to even an inch away would defeat the laws of physics thus a serious snap would happen possibly so hard it could set off a nuclear reaction in the area.

It's impossible to move things that fast without consequences, one day it may be possible but right now in our technological state it's not feasible nor is it feasible to study it when you can just use what they know may work without killing you instantly and cloning you on the other side (in other words even if you did make it to the other pad unharmed it wouldn't be you anymore- it would be a clone of you that think's it's you- meanwhile your soul is moving on to wherever souls move on to .

On star trek they explained this away with what were called inertial dampeners- this technology would (and is theory at best) surround the ship or person (in a transporter) with a field that would isolate the contents of the field enveloped and would counter the inertia (inside the envelope) that would kill you after stretching you out so thin yarn would compete for thickness...

The second part is eliminating the matter boom/effect by leaving energy equivalent to your body's molecules etc... and having it slowly disperse into the air at a pace that would not cause an explosion. This would likely look like a Tesla coil going off but with more amps (the part of electricity that kills you is the amps not the actual shock) so it'd  need to be contained inside something (in space no need) I think by the time they invent this technology that energy would likely be recycled to power something instead of just waking out...

Of course if "The Singularity" movie was right, and in 50 years we're all made up of one nano bot per molecule in our body (50% cyborg) then the transporter could potentially work because the nanobots could in effect shield each molecule in your body, remember where it was relative to the genome structure/network and on the other end could reassemble but we'd have to be half machine for us not to die in the process... opens a whole new can of worms there I think... Go see "The Singularity Is Near 2012"...

I believe time travel exists but will not be some device but more so if it is a device it would have the job only of tuning your body and mind to states of meditation that allow you to lucid dream... astral travel books by Monroe are pretty detailed in this.... again fascinating topic, glad everyone jumped in!
