Hi all,
I'm in a service station on the way back from an overnight stay away. Something incomprehensible has happened.
Someone reading one of my articles has shared it on one of Reddit's most popular sub-Reddits. This isn't someone that I know. In fact, the first I was aware was when a Reddit using friend called me to tell me to have a look.
Overnight, I've received 67,000 hits on that article alone. It's still growing at an astromonical rate. When I left my friend's house two and a half hours ago, it was at 45,000.
I'm in serious shock. It's at number 7 on the Reddit TIL with nearly 2000 upvotes!
I'll be back home in an hour. I'll update you then. I'm too stunned to even know how to react yet. Utter over-excitement is looking favourite though.
yours
Jo

Perhaps this is a lesson for us all to start sharing each others stuff (if it is good enough) on Reddit, Stumbleupon, Delicious, Furl etc.

I think you're right. I have been neglectful about that. I have a hard enough time keeping up with my own stuff, but what goes around, comes around.

Thank you all.
I'm still finding it hard to take in. It's now just 200 hits short of 70,000. The rest of my stats have just flat-lined beneath the spike!

Congratulations!
A fun thing you might be able to divine after the smoke clears is what effect social traffic has on adsense returns. You might be surprised

Very impressive, to say the least. Most folks can only dream of ever seeing these kind of traffic numbers on a single page. Well, at least I have never experienced anything remotely like it.
The only downside really, if you can even call it that, is the complete mess-up of your stats for a while. It's a good kind of problem to have though.

My guess is that Jo will have NO Adsense clicks.
It's not really a guess - she does not have Adsense on her articles.
Now as for Chikita, and Amazon books - probably very few clicks and sales. Social media tends not to attract buyers or clickers.
However what it will do is give a boost to the SERP position of that article (unless of course it was No:1 already). SE's now love social likes. This is where the longer term income opportunities arise.
Perhaps Jo, you could keep us abreast of the impact this has on other than just visitor numbers so we can gauge whether the spike in traffic from a particular site is positive in the long run, rather than delightful in the short term.
I would also tweet this as "Reddits favourite love story" - several times - if it was mine.
Also: any stats on location from whence visitors arrived - country-wise that is?

Thanks again all. It's starting to sink in finally that this did happen. :) The hits are currently at 71409.
Brandon - Wow! I hadn't even noticed the FB likes! :o
And yes, I'm on Chitika, so no Adsense there. I've checked and the proceeds from yesterday are just double digit cents.
My Wizzley stats graph will be unusable until about Christmas! LOL But in a good way.
Chaz, your insights are always useful. Bear in mind that I'm still on the learning curve of interpreting all of these stats long-term. What specific information do you want me to keep you all informed about?
If it's Amazon module clicks, then each of those got roughly 20 hits.
Location, the vast majority were from the USA, with Canada second (though much, much further behind in terms of actual numbers). Then Britain, Australia, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and Eire. The last six contributed between 500 and 1k hits each, so very insignificant compared to those in the Americas.
