Hey everyone...
Personal note first
Let me first say that Jim and I are fine, but we are juggling SO much right now - just don't have time for forums (and barely writing, for that matter) until we get through the holidays. First "holidays" without my mom is gonna be rough...on top of still being stuck in Illinois, juggling family challenges that are huge, etc. But we are both ok and will celebrate when we make it thru December. Should be more around the forums after Dec 10th...hope everyone is doing ok, by the way...
MY QUESTION
So someone left a comment on my rving with cats Wizzley page. I haven't approved it yet, by the way. In the comment, she states "I've provided a useful link" - but I saw no link at all.
So further investigating, I clicked on her Wizzley name. Now correct me if i am wrong, but whenever I click on someone's Wizzley name, it takes me to their cute little home page on Wizzley (about me, etc). Not this time! I clicked on her name and I was immediately taken to her Squidoo page on cats! Huh???? Is it not working because I haven't approved the comment yet or did she actually create a Wizzley name with a link to Squidoo?
Now let me say that I poked around her Squidoo lenses, etc. and she seems like a decent human being, established writer on Squidoo and her article was appropriate and very creative. But I'm just not sure about this whole thing. So, again...I haven't approved the comment yet and will wait for your input. As a sidenote, I just always feel it is good etiquette to ASK if you can leave a link...not SAY you ARE leaving a link...but that's just me...
No rush at all...thanks for addressing this!
Robin

If someone is not logged into Wizzley, they can leave a URL together with their comment, which then appears as a link through their name.
If you don't like this feature, you can turn it off in the comments module on each individual article. (Then only members can comment.)
It's actually a pretty common link-building procedure, and if the comment is useful you may accept it.
However, it's totally up to you. Personally, I rarely allow links in my comments, whether they're in name or text.
P.S.: Take good care of yourself.

Why? Not all links are bad and some actually would help your readers... spam I can see but every link I can't :)

Just got one of those- I think it's a sneaky way they are trying to build backlinks to their sq lenses... the comment was very dry and general.... seems last generations spammers are still trying outdated and useless tactics...

With me, the etiquette thing makes all the difference in how I proceed...
One time, a great Wizzler merely mentioned her personal interest in my bear totem article - that she has a blog, etc...Didn't ask me for a link, etc...
I was interested in her work, loved her site and promoted it (put the link in) myself. I know everyone wouldn't do that...but that is how I roll with the whole linking thing. Just talk to me, ask me...but even if the link is useful content, if someone just takes liberties and plants it in there, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth (yeah...I don't like when people leave ads on doorknobs either, crossing my personal boundaries).
So comment is not going to get posted - need a bit more tact, in my opinion.

Me: wishing it was that easy with Chinese delivery and pizza flyers on my doorknob. Where is the moderation button when you really need it in life?

I think the "button" would look something like...
A big sign on the door that says "NO SOLICITATION"
Then...
Thank You

I delete every comment with a link.
I do the same, but in this case, I would just disable the link. Personally, after I put in so much work on each page, I don't want to dilute my links and potential income with others.
